I'm selling a powerbook that will still be under the original one year warranty.

What do I need to include so the buyer can extend Applecare on the Powerbook if they so choose?

I'd like to keep the original receipt for my records, will a copy of the receipt allow the buyer to extend Applecare? Or what is really needed?

Thanks!

Your title suggests that you're selling a powerbook AND Applecare. You posts suggests something different. You're asking what you need to do to ensure that the buyer could add Applecare if he/she wishes.

So...make up your mind, and when you're ready, come back and let us know.

His post seems rather clear to me. So what if his title isn't as clear as his post?

I'd say you should include at least a copy of the original bill of sale. Though, you might want to call Applecare and ask them the same question.

If your Powerbook is still within the original 1 year warranty then it is eligable for Applecare.
They give you the first year to extend the coverage.
I alsways call Apple to confirm the machine is actually registered to the seller before I become the buyer and ask them what it will require to have the registration switched over to me when I buy it.

I suggest you do the same.

It's an e-bay auction, and I made it clear in the auction that the original 1 year warranty ends in January, but Applecare could be added to the Powerbook by the purchaser as long as it is still under the original warranty.

My question is about what do I have to do to ensure that whomever buys my powerbook can add applecare if they want to in re: what documents do they need.

I'm gonna try to call my Applestore and ask, but there's almost no chance I'm going to brave the Mall during xmas rush to ask in person.

I would think a copy of the receipt and the serial number would do, but yeah, call them and ask.

They are pretty awesome about transfering them as well--I bought an eMac with AppleCare a while ago, and all the seller had to do was write a letter to Apple stating I was the new owner, and Apple wrote me a letter saying I was all set.

To be sure, why not give the buyer the original receipt, and keep a copy for your records?
