I ended up paying about $1,550 with overnight shipping.

The powerbook was owned/used for about one year, with no scratches or dents

12"
1.33 ghz
1.25 gb ram
60 gig HD
Superdrive
Tiger
AppleCare (2 years left)

I wanted to buy the new 12" through apple, but with sales tax the price (with a SD) was pushed up to $1,650. I figured $100 less for 0.17 less mhz, AC included, Tiger included, and 512 more ram wasn't a bad deal. But still unsure.

Looking for y'all's thoughts

Apple's selling the refurb model for $1299 with 256MB RAM; you can add 1GB RAM for another $200 or so. That means $1500 with only 1 year of warranty, so you got a fair deal, but not a smoking cheap deal.

For comparison's sake, I got a 1.5ghz, 1gb ram, 80GB, 15" PB with superdrive which was only a few months old for $1600 in these forums. Selling my TiBook on eBay for over $1300 made it even sweeter. =)

Question. Here's my two options (since I haven't paid yet)

I can get the powerbook listed above for $1,550

Or...I can get this refurbished from apple for the same exact price.
PowerBook 12-inch 1.5GHz SuperDrive - Apple Certified Refurbished
Part Number: F9691LL/A
8x SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
512MB DDR333 (256MB built-in + 256MB SO-DIMM)
AirPort Extreme Card
Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
80GB Ultra ATA drive @ 5400rpm

It has 512MB less ram, and 1 year less of AC. It has .17 more mhz, 20 gig more HD, and is from apple.

Help me out

I bought an eMac refurbished from Apple. It was for dvd/cd duplication attached to a bravo II printer. The studio I purchased it for was pleased. The only thing was a USB problem that occaisonally glitched... and after I left the studio, the owner didn't know how to manage things and it eventually imploded from what I hear.

Needless to say, Refurbished from Apple = good.
The only thing is you don't get that damn sexy case as if it was new. (or at least my experience)
Go for the refurbished!

No personal experience, but I've only heard of good things about the refurbished stuff. Keep in mind having a Superdrive will extend the value of your PB in the long run.

I sold my 15" 1.25 superdrive for $1400 with a brenthaven pro shoulder bag. But then I picked up my current 17" 1.33 ghz for $1200. I think that both deals were good for both parties.

I still have some buyer remorse because of the depreciation of these things.

Where'd you manage to get the 17" for so cheap?
