See title. I'm trying to make an inexpensive OS 9 box out of an upgraded PowerMac 7600. I have an Xclaim VR (ATi Rage II) but since I have to use a VGA adaptor, I only get 640x480. The Xclaim VR 128 doesn't have that problem; it uses a regular VGA connection to the monitor, hence I'm looking for the 128.

You would be better off getting an adapter that has the dip switches to change resolution. You would come out cheaper by going that route.

Yeah, I had considered that as well. I can get something like that on eBay for just a few bucks, but I've got a question on that: if I set the dips to a higher resolution, do I have multiple resolutions available? or do I have to set the dip switches each time? i.e., say I want to play Starcraft and my desktop is 1024x768...do I have to set the dips to 640x480, or will it do lower resolutions automatically?

If I remember correctly you set the switches to the highest resolution that the monitor can handle. The resolution can downgrade on the fly from there without having to change the switches.

Be careful of some of the adapters out there. Some say for use on a G3 only. I have had a few of them and I never could get them to work right on older PowerMacs like the 7600. It seems there was a Sync problem between the video cards and the monitor or something along those lines. Also, the adapters without the dip switches are more trouble than what they are worth.

When I get home tonight I will see if I have one. If I do I will send it to you for free. Sound good?

I already ordered one... I found an irresistable deal on eBay, it was like $7 shipped. If this doesn't work out, I'll take you up on your offer, though...thanks for it.
