EDIT: Let me preface my post by saying: if you are interested at all but think my price is high...please email me. I'm willing to haggle on price. I need to sell...
Well I’m selling my powerbook…even though I wish I could keep it. But, for now, I have to use some windows only software for my research/work so I need to sell this and purchase a windows laptop.
In a way it sucks that my first post on this forum is to sell my Mac rather than ask for help, etc.
Laptop was originally purchased in August 2004.
I purchased applecare for this system so the laptop is under warranty until August 2007.
Laptop specifications:
Operating System: OS X 10.3.9 (I can get Tiger academic for an additional $70)
LCD: 15.4" widescreen 1280 x 800 (no dead pixels that I can see)
Processor: G4 @ 1.5 GHz
System Memory: 1.25 GB (1 x 1024 MB, 1 x 256 MB)
Hard Drive: 80GB 5400 rpm HDD (was a BTO upgrade)
Graphics: Radeon mobility 9700 w/ 128 MB VRAM (was a BTO upgrade)
Disc Drive: superdrive (4X DVD-R/CD-RW)
airport wireless card
Bluetooth/USB2/Firewire…etc.
(see Apple’s website for other/additional specs)

I am actually the 2nd owner of this system…I bought it from a guy I know in early November 2004. He took pretty good care of it…I have taken terrific care of it.
Laptop has one scratch on the outside of case and one very, very tiny dent…see pictures to see what I’m talk about (my friends fault…he sold the system to me and then bought a new powerbook because he scratched the case!).
LCD has no dead pixels (as far as I can see) and I have had zero problems with this system.
I have the original box and manuals and will ship the powerbook in the original retail box.
I will also include the following items with the powerbook, unless you don't want them:
-booq carrying case ($45 new)
http://www.booqbags.com/Detail.bok?no=19
-legit copies of MS Virtual PC 7 (full retail in box, not registered) and win98 2nd edition -- about a $200 value
-microsoft office 2004 mac academic -- about a $100 value
-iWork retail – Keynote is cool…Pages sucks – about a $40 value, IMO.
-retail Unreal Tournament 2004 mac ($30 value), runs pretty well at 1280 x 800 with most settings to maximum on this system.
-50 8x Ritek DVD-R’s with the white print surface
All told, I spent near 3000 USD on the system, software, applecare, etc. albeit I know the system/package has depreciated.
If you want just the laptop (and original accessories that came with it) I'm asking
$1750 shipped USPS, UPS, or Fedex (your choice) with insurance.
I'm looking to get
$2000 shipped USPS, UPS, or Fedex (your choice) with insurance for the whole package.
Price is somewhat flexible.
About Me:
My name is Layton Baker. I am a graduate student in the department of chemical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. Feel free to check my other pictures on the smugmug site...my wife and I just had a son, David...he's now almost 7 weeks old.
I have heatware under miniMUNCH (most all from deals on the Anandtech...I've been and AT member since 2000) and my first name, layton, is mentioned in several of feedbacks @ heatware. I’m flexible on payment options…as long as we both are reasonably protected against fraud.
Posts here and email at
lbaker@andrew.cmu.edu works best for me. I would be more than happy to talk on the phone to potential buyers. Local buyers (i.e. we can meet in person) get preference and an additional price cut since I don't have to pay for shipping.
