Note: Please, skip the first four paragraphs if you just want to find what I'm selling, and can do without the sob story.

So, here's the deal (indulge me for a second, I reeeally want to tell this story, both to explain why I'm selling and also just to vent a bit).

I started law school during winter semester of this year. As a result, I had to buy a Windows machine. Had to. Necessary. Well, unless I wanted to, for some reason, handwrite all of my exams. No thanks. I haven't handwritten more than scribbled notes for about the last twenty years. It wasn't going to happen. The exam software, even though it easily could (it's just a lame-ass word processor with some lame-ass "security" features) doesn't run on Macs. They don't ever, apparently, plan to port it to Macs. Stupid, but, what're you going to do?

So, I went out shopping. And, I managed to convince myself that it would be worth it to drop $1000 or so (even though I didn't really have the money at the time) on a pretty good laptop -- one that was, in fact, tremendously overpowered for the one task that I really needed it to do. But, I managed to convince myself that I'd get used to it, and might even like it, might even use the machine for some other stuff. And, for a while, I tried. I really did.

But, eventually, I have to admit: Windows wore me down. Every time I turned around, it was popping up an alert at me, or advising me that my machine was at risk because my virus checker wasn't up to date, or taking an eon and a half to do a find, or ... I don't know. I just couldn't get used to it, and more and more, when I wasn't using it for an exam (which happened only four times, total), it just sat there. And, as I was looking at it last night, I finally realized that I'm never going to use it for anything other than just exams, so I might as well get an older crap machine to do nothing but that (apparently, anything that can run Windows 98 will do), and move this machine on to someone who wants/needs it.

End of story. So, here's what I've got:

Compaq Presario, R3200. US Model. AMD 3000+ Mobile processor; 15" screen (not widescreen), DVD/CDRW combo drive, Nvidia GForce Go 4200 32 Meg graphics card (dedicated VRAM, not shared memory). 512 Megs of RAM, 60 Gig Hard drive, S-video out, VGA out, 4 USB ports, Windoze XP "Home Edition", including all of the software and stuff that came on the mahcine. ... It seems to me like a pretty fast machine -- at least, the few times that I threw anything processor-intensive at it (I ran Reason music software on it a couple of times, and Playstation and Nintendo 64 emulators) it seemed to handle it easily. It's going to sound like a cliché to say this, but the machine is really in "like new" condition, just based on the fact that I didn't realy want to use it very much.

I'd like to trade this for an older Powerbook (a Titanium, I'd prefer a 500 or maybe a 667) in reasonably good condition; functional is more important to me than cosmetically perfect. I'd also consider a G4 iBook, likewise in good condition. Sorry, I won't consider a G3 iBook right now.

Or, I'd sell the machine outright, if there's anybody who needs a decent Windows notebook at a reasonable price. $650 OBO, not including shipping.

Thanks to those of you who were willing to read my rant. Any questions, offers, insults, please PM me, or reply to this thread.

Thanks,
Brent

Update:

Thrown into The Bay. Shaved some fairly significant bucks off, listed at a $520 Buy-it-now price.
