You need to post an asking price per the forum rules.

Also, is this the first model 1.8GHz with or the last model that was released?

That is a pretty poor way to go about things. It's unethical. It's sad when a man can't keep his word over a few dollars, but that's just a reflection upon the character involved.

Hope you've arranged for shipping insurance, weazbert, if anything gets shipped at all...

Having worked as a moderator at a very busy buy/sell forum (150,000+ users!), here's my advice. Call the guy. Find out what the deal is. If you don't have his number (always a good thing to get on an expensive deal), there are usually ways to find it based on his name and address. Failing all of that, send him an e-mail and CC yourself on it. Get the moderators here involved, and find out if they have any dispute resolution methods that they've used in the past.

If you can't contact this guy (or he refuses contact) get his local police department involved. Ask to speak to a detective, and be ready to forward all of your correspondence and information to him. Usually a knock on the door by the local authorities is enough to motivate a deadbeat. The local authorities are usually willing to help, as they don't want this sort of crime going on either. It's just a matter of finding out who the go-to guy is.

You'll also want to pursue it with whatever method of payment you used. Postal Money Orders kick butt in that regard.

Good luck.

... um.... yeah. You sent money to someone who was a new poster to these forums, and you didn't have his phone number, and the price was too good to be true.

No offense, but ....uh... that's your own damn fault for being stupid.

Have you made an effort to get the CMP involved? When I was a child, my father had a tackle box stolen during a fishing trip to Canada. He filed a report, knowing that it was probably a waste of time. Sometime later, what is hand delivered to our door by a Mountie? His tackle box.

These things can and regularly are resolved. You need to put in the effort to make that happen, however. While the other poster was a bit of a dick, he makes a good point. It's better to put the effort in prior to making a deal than when something goes wrong. A little diligence can go a long way.

Ruin what? Hey, tell you what. I can get you your money back, just send me $100. Oh, and I won't give you any personal info, but I promise I'll get your money back. Oh, and send cash, not a money order or anything traceable. Yep.

i sent paypal ya boner. anyway your previous comment wasnt really needed. where other members simply said "sorry that sucks" you decided to flex your surpreme intelligence and tell me "its my own damn fault cause i'm stupid" did you expect me to say "Gee! thats exactly it!" its simpy you being a dick and it was unnecesary.

so to keep it short, please piss off

Stay on top of paypal, they might just have a way to trace him, get any info you can out of them. Either he transferred the money to a "real" paypal account, he took it out the ATM (which case they have his address) or he sent it to his bank account. If this was out of the country you are possibly screwed and can stand in line with the thousands of others.

Never EVERY send payment when something is fishy, especially never when they are unverified.

Lastly, that is a shitty thing to do, esp. around Christmas! If this is true tomaleric is a real scumbag.

thanks zero star, i know it was a risk, and i really hope this one works out. paypal has him listed as a business on the details page of our transaction, and i received the email that if he dosent respond by dec 8th that the case is ruled in my favor. However i am unsure if a ruling in my favor means my money is returned. the details also state that the transaction is elgible for paypal buyer protection. so once again heres hoping :-(

this is simply awesome

"After careful review, we have determined that the seller is at fault but
regret to inform you that we were unable to recover any funds from the
seller's account. As stated in the PayPal User Agreement, recovery of funds
associated with a Buyer Complaint cannot be guaranteed. "

i am done here i think. this just completes the stress of finals, and car issues, and now f*cked holidays.

How much would it cost to hire a private detective? Maybe the private detective could figure out the identity & address of this person.

I'll personally donate money to your cause if you hire a private detective. I'd love to see an a**hole like tomaleric held accountable for his deception. pm me if you want to follow through with this idea.

OMG! I got scammed on a laptop by a guy on Yahoo Auctions almost two years ago, and he gave the same address and phone #, but gave his name as John Howard. Did you ever succeed in reaching anyone at that number? Do you mind contacting me at my user name at shaw dot ca? I'd love to hear how things are going, and if you've gotten anywhere. I've still got copies of the emails from the whole fiasco, in case the headers may come in handy. Thanks!
