I hope it's ok to post this here??!!
To anyone who works at an Apple Store or can get the Educational discount, and who is located in the San Fernando Valley (LA County) area: I want to purchase the new Quad, but I wouldn't mind saving a few hundred bucks on it. I can't qualify for financing, but I have saved about $2K and should be able to purchase sometime in January. I just need someone to buy it for me. I of course would reimburse for your help. I do have a couple friends that can get the Educational discounts, and supposedly a friend of a friend works at the Apple store, but I have yet to hear anything back. I figured I would try it out here, since most of you Mac folks are such a great group. No this is not a scam, I just want to save a few bucks! Please respond via PM.. Thanks!
Oh yes, and I should add that if anyone gets Apple Store gift cards for Christmas, I will be ready to buy them from you if you don't want them.

I bought online to take advantage of the student discount and the $179 ipod rebate. I was prepared with my "student buyer" but all they asked was what school I attended and there was no verification needed. I bought in September (just a few weeks before the NEW imac and ipod of course!) and just got the rebate for $179 last week. So if I were you I'd just call to order and choose one of the schools in your area that you "attend."

I've tried that on the Apple Store online, entered in a school that is located in the same zipcode, I tried going through the checkout process and it seemed to go off without a hitch....I just never went as far as actually "paying". Turns out that I have a friend who is a buyer for CompUSA, he can get me a better discount than the educational pricing, however, he is in Texas right now. I just recieved an email about the "Black Friday" (day after Thanksgiving) sale, so we'll see what happens. I don't expect any sales on the Quad though...
