This iMac has a Superdrive built-in and is fully Wireless ready (Airport and Bluetooth). It does not suffer from the "jet engine" effect of first generation iMacs - most of the time it's extremely quiet. Obviously if you are doing some video encoding the fans are slightly louder as it is utilizing more of the processor but I have never heard any sort of whine sound from it. This is a second generation iMac.
