Hi folks,
I'm looking at purchasing a Powermac G5 1.6ghz that I've been using at work for the past 3 or so years. I wanted to find out how much the setup is worth before making an offer on it.
Specs:
G5 1.6ghz
2GB Ram
2x 80gb HD
Keyboard, Mouse
Everything else is stock
17" Apple Studio Display (LCD)
No BT or AE.
What do you think? I'm wanting it to hold me over until possibly next summer, when I can purchase a juicy new iMac or MBP. I was wanting to only spend $1K at the most. Is it a worthwhile offer?
Thanks in advance.

No, if you look around, I've seen a 1.8 dual G5 sell for 800 shipped.

For less than that, you can get a gaster iMac G5 from Apple's Refurb Store, which includes a one-year warranty:
"Refurbished iMac G5 17-inch 2GHz SuperDrive
512MB DDR400 SDRAM
160GB Serial ATA hard drive
ATI Radeon 9600
128MB DDR video memory
Price: $949.00
"
You can even get an Intel Core duo iMac for $1049.
Even with the RAM, I think it's only worth $600-$700.

Really? Including the 17" LCD?

I think it would be worth about $850-$950.

My statement was regarding the quote for $600-$700 for the PM G5. I was wondering if it included the 17" Display.

I would say no more than $800.

You obviously know this computer which is really important. Including the 17" studio display and extra ram I think you are in the ball park a $1,000. I have a G5 1.6 and bought it new from Apple. Never one problem with it and unless you have some special need for speed this is worth considering. Sometimes a bird in the hand is worth 2 birds you cannot see. I would put a value of $200 on the display which puts your price on the computer at $800. I have a new 15" 1.67 G4 Ti Laptop and my old G5 seems to do anything it will do.
