Well, after much decision, I have decided to stick with my MacBook Pro and sell my MacBook. Both machines are awesome and I had originally offered my Pro for sale on here but due to the lack of serious response - and the need to sell one to pay for the other at least partially - I am offering my white MacBook. It is in pristine, as-new shape, with all the original accessories that came in the box. The specs are the normal mid-level MacBook details - 2.0GHz/512MB/60GB/Superdrive/Airport Extreme/BT 2.0. This one hasn't shown me any of the issues that I have seen in the forums concerning unusual noises, etc. It does get a little arm but of all the iBooks/PowerBooks I've had over the years, it's no better or worse than anything else I have used.

This machine will be shipped to you for $1,250. I use DHL for all our business shipping so that will be the carrier. They have great, fast and safe service and we never have any issues with them. PayPal is also acceptable with the buyer adding 2.9% for their fee.

Please feel welcome to contact me with any questions and if you are local to the Orlando/Daytona or Jacksonville areas in Florida, I can possibly meet you to deliver as I work throughout those areas during the week.

well, the macbook has been opened and tested, so i actually consider that very valuable. (As opposed to getting a new macbook then having to deal with possible warranty issues right away)

well, with apple's recent track record, especially with the mbp and mb, wouldn't you like to have a guaranteed problem free notebook, instead of apple telling you that "it is within spec" and not repairing/replacing it? especially if you don't live close to an applestore.

I would, but I don't think that justifies selling the computer for $50 under the price it costs new.

Add another 2.9% to the price if you are using PayPal. That adds another $36.25 to the price. Not much of a deal if you ask me. Also, IIRC, charging the buyer for the PayPal fees goes against the PayPal user agreement.

Thanks for all the replies...

osxpinot - Yes, it is the white model

"...I am offering my white MacBook..."

and it is $49 less than you will pay for a brand new one (not mentioning sales tax - seems everyone forgets that little item. Here in Florida that would add another $84.44 for a total of $1,383.44 so you are actually saving $133.44 than if you were to walk out of a store with one, or put another way this is a 10% discount off the total price you would pay in a retail store. Some areas have even higher sales tax rates so YMMV. This is based on 6.5%.). Also remember, we are paying shipping.

wpd7 - osxpinot - With all the hoopla surrponding noises, yellowing case, etc. some people actually would prefer a machine that had been evaluated by a professional Apple consultant for a brief period. If I were to charge our regularly hourly rate for machine evaluation - which is one of our services - the price would be considerably higher. At this price, you are getting the benefit of our in-office experience plus the $49 discount and no sales tax and free shipping.

wpd7 - "Open and tested! LOL!!

On any other mercahndise, that's called used..."

Where did I say this in my listing? Why are you making things up? What is your point? What are you implying? My listing is very straightforward and to the point. I have no idea how you came to the point of making your erroneous post but please, do not reply if you are not a serious buyer. This forum used to be a good place to conduct business as I have bought and sold from many good people in here, but this sort of non-productive and pointless reply is what hurts the credibility of a good forum.

discotronic - PayPal sets their fees, not me. They charge the 2.9%, the seller isn't exactly receiving this in any way as profit. PayPal is being offered here as a convenience to the buyer. A transaction can be priced any way you like. By this rationale then, in order to concur with your view I will simply price the unit differently. The cash price is $1,250 and the price for PayPal users is $1,286.25, no mention of any fees. That should make it a bit clearer.

Terry is a top notch buyer/seller on this forum. We have done some business in the past (AE Base Station) and it was a great transaction.

I agree with the above poster about having the macbook opened can be a good thing. My first MacBook died 30 minutes after I turned it on. . . The sleep light was on solid, and the optical drive was going crazy for whatever reason. . . I had to drive another 2 hours just to exchange it for another. . . .

on ebay, you can not pass paypal fees onto the bidders.

However, you can charge less for shipping if the buyer doesn't use paypal.

This is not listed on eBay. And, as you will notice, many eBay sellers charge a disproportionate price for shipping to cover the PayPal fees. The bottom line stays the same. IMO, PayPal should split the fees equally between buyer and seller as it is there for the convenience of both parties. By placing the entire burden on one party, it discourages that party from wanting to use their service.

Note also, you mentioned sellers reducing their shipping cost to have an effect on PayPal fees... I am not charging ANY shipping cost here. If someone wants to use PayPal and for me to absorb the fees, then fine I will do that. But be prepared to pay for shipping and handling. Fair is fair.

first off, i didn't mean to sound like I was attacking your 2.9% fee. My earlier post was meant to be supportive your decisions.

on ebay, it states that charging extra for paying via ordinary methods is against the rule. Paypal is not mentioned explicitly, but it does mention "electronic transfers and credit cards."

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/...urcharges.html

again, i'm just saying that, as a private party, you can charge whatever you want. I personally am not a fan of paypal. Once you accept credit cards as payment, then you are charged 2.9% even if the payment is not a credit card payment. But it is what the "masses" demand.

Some may even use the 2.9% as a bargaining/haggling point. Some offer free shipping or discounted shipping.

TerryJ, i don't disagree with your points. it is an advantage of selling on the forums that there are less restrictions/rules. But in any case, here's another bump from me to you. (And personally, i would consider buying yours if i wasn't so fixated on the blacbook, which is on its way to me right now)

Hi uicandrew,

Thanks for posting back. I apologize for coming off a little harshly as that wasn't my intention. Rereading my post, the wording isn't the most eloquent in the world!

Actually, I was just explaining my reasoning for pricing the item as I did. I consider PayPal a convenience for both parties and as I mentioned above, it should be a 50/50 between buyer and seller since both gain benefit from it's use. Either way, I've tried to make a reasonable offer since the ultimate buyer will save a bit off retail, then save on sales tax then also save on shipping. It is their decision whether to use PayPal or some other means but if they want/need to use PayPal, then it would be for their convenience and benefit thus they should be responsible for the 2.9%. I have no problem with a variety of payment methods but the payment decision ultimately rests with the buyer in this case.

Anyway, thanks again for your replies and I apprecite the communication. It may inform others for future online dealings whether here or on eBay while using PayPal. Since eBay owns PayPal now, I figure they are being fairly protective of how they present the options to bidders and sellers but they sure do tangle the web of restrictions sometimes!

Anyway, still available!

Thanks osxpinot. I agree, seems everyone has has their 'moments' with PayPal at some point.

Anyway, I'm just looking to sell one of my machines, either this MacBook or my MacBook Pro. If anybody is interested, just let me know and we can work out the details!

Thanks again everyone for the replies and exploring this more.

What is the deal with everyone saying "... Well, on ebay it's this... "

Is MacNN eBay?

And I agree, Paypal fees suck.

Thanks for your post chippervw,

I think many, like myself, would rather avoid paying eBay AND PayPal to sell their item. eBay owns PayPal anyway, so it's like getting double-feed so to speak in some ways. I guess using PayPal is a separate service, but it still adds up fast when selling on eBay. For example, it would cost $60 - $70 just in their fees to sell my lower priced MacBook on there. Then, if you count in the shipping I'm paying for, you can see how that's a pretty big chunk out of the price. This is one reason you are seeing so many people charge higher-then-usual costs for shipping... to offset some of the eBay and/or PayPal fees. I mean, I bought some video cables on there recently that should have only cost $2 - $3 to ship realistically, but I was cgarged $14.95 shipping. The price on the item was low enough to make it worth it, but you can see where I'm heading with this.
I would rather offer my item here, directly to the people that might be interested, at a decent price rather than gouge them on a higher price or inflated shipping just to pass the loot to eBay.
