I've got June 2004 PowerMac G5 2ghz (M9455LL/A) with 2.5 gigs of ram, two hard drives (totaling 200gigs), plus a 2004 Apple 22" Apple Cinema Display (ADC connector) that I want to sell to help finance that new MacPro + Dell monitor I just bought. Both are in excellent condition and will ship in original boxes. Can anybody help me price it? I'm thinking between $1500-2000. Any pointers on price would be appreciated.

thanks - danrew

Look at completed ebay auctions.

I'm not sure that eBay is the best predictor of sales price... some of those prices are all over the board. I was hoping for some realistic prices from some of the Mac experts here at Macnn.

Anybody else?

You have to price yourself based on whats available from apple. Why would I buy your system over a brand new 20 inch imac with a dual 2.16 core 2 duo for $1500 (or less with edu)? Sure yours has some more RAM, but being PPC only takes a big hit in resale IMHO, especially now that the vast majority of apps (photoshop and office are almost there...) are universal.

Imac Core Duo 1.83/1.5 GB/20 inch cinema, ibook G4 1 ghz

yep, completely agree - that's why i'm asking here to set a realistic price. I do think, though, that the G5 towers have a bit more going for them than the iMacs in terms of expandability. or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

I would pay $1,100 for it, maybe $1,200. That's an old display.

forum rules state that "feelers" are not allowed. Ebay is a good place to check for used prices. If you don't want to deal with ebay, people expect to pay less than ebay prices when buying from fellow forum members.

if macnn forums started allowing "feelers" then i fear that the marketplace will degrade to the level of macrumors. Sure, they are more "secure" in the sense that you have to have 100+ posts to START a FS or WTB thread, but they get bitter and nasty when people start throwing out lowballing offers.

just search on ebay.

doh! sorry about that all - didn't see the no feelers thing in the forum rules. it's been a while since i posted here.

the prices at ebay, even the completed auctions, really are all over the place. perhaps this is more a question for the moderator community, but the no feelers, no asking for price guidance seems to be a bit askew with the community support nature of macnn. i mean, really, who does it help if I grossly misprice my system? if I price too high, it won't sell, and I'll get it sooner or later. but what if I don't know any better and price $1000 under what it's worth? (i know i didn't do that in this case...!) is it just tough for me and good luck for the first guy who gets to it? that doesn't seem too cool. imho, price checks should be a permitted thing. i came here first (vs. ebay) to ensure I could price fairly.

i see what yr saying, but when someone puts out a feeler or advice on an asking price, it turns into a bidding type thing most of the time.

you as the seller should do yr research and price the system on what you think it's worth. if it's too high people will tell you.

what it's worth varies from person to person.

so price it at $1500 and people will make offers from there.
as ever,
sonny
