This is more of a total shot in the dark, but who knows.....
About a year or so ago, I wanted to get a tivo system, but i decided that i didn't want to pay a monthly subscription fee. So i built my own. I took a specialized pc case and threw in some large hard drives, added a tv tuner card, and then i had a tivo system.
i basically spent a bunch of time over at byopvr.com (build your own personal video recorder) and learned about it.
[edit] - I'm asking $300 + actual shipping costs. I will use Fedex's online shipping calculator so no one gets shafted by over/under-estimated shipping costs.
My system -
Case - Shuttle ST62K (this case is supposed to be especially quiet relative to other shuttle cases)
Main Board - Built in 5.1 sound support, Firewire 400 ports, S-video and VGA output jacks, front and back mounted USB 2.0 ports.
CPU - Socket 478 Pentium 4 2ghz
RAM - 1gb
Optical Drive - NEC 16x DVD burner
HDD #1 - For OS and Apps - 160gb
HDD #2 - For video recordings - 200gb 7200rpm made by Seagate (purchased retail)
TV tuner - Hauppage PVR150 MCE
Remote - ATI Remote Wonder II (an RF remote, not IR)
PVR software used - GBPVR
OS - Windows XP Professional SP2
BONUS - Logitech Wireless Keyboard and Mouse LX 500 (has many multimedia controls on the keyboard, including a scroll wheel.....on a keyboard!)
As i said, this is a complete system. It is completely functional (i'm still currently using it until my tivo comes in). I still have the original box that the shuttle case came in, so it will be well protected. I also have the original Shuttle drivers disc, so if you want to wipe the system clean and customize it, you can do that, too.
Why am i getting rid of it? I want to move to Tivo since it now has software to integrate well with macs.
If there is interest in this machine, I will take pictures and post it here. It has served me well. Hopefully, it will serve one of you well, too
[edit] here is a pic of the front. 7" high! shorter than a dvd case!
