Up for sale is a beautiful powerbook titanium g4 with factory specs. It was owned by a friend who was the original owner and took good care of it:

• 1.0 GHz G4, 256k on chip level 2 cache, and 1.0 MB level 3 cache
• 512 MB of PC133 SDRAM
• 60 GB Ultra ATA/66 hard drive (4200 RPM)
• slot-loading "SuperDrive" Please note, THIS IS NOT FUNCTIONAL - it will spit discs out if you put one in though.
• AirPort for wireless internet - works great, better than my macbook 1.83 with my linksys router
• ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 (4X AGP) graphics with 64 MB of DDR SDRAM - THE VIDEO CARD MALFUNCTIONS and creates weird things on the screen, please see video at the link below.
• 1-inch thick Titanium case with a 15.2" TFT display (1280x854 native resolution) Screen if beautiful when the video card is not malfunctioning. It would be too costly to fix (local shop said 6-800 bucks). Overall this titanium looks great with light scratches - no paint issues that many of these suffered from. The battery does not hold a charge so it has to be plugged in all the time. The lid closes evenly and tight. It's running the latest version of 10.4 Tiger very well.

I am interested, but you're going to need to come down a bit on price.

Not to turn this in to a discussion or tech thread, but that video problem appears to be related to the cables that run thru the hinges. (I know, I've recently dealt with this)

EDIT: I'll acquiesce to chipchen, he has fixed more of them than me.

flat rate repair would be the way to go... multiple parts would be replaced, especially if damage or failure is not caused by "abuse."

I have to say... from the video... that is one CLEAN PowerBook Titanium there. Very nice.

I'm not 100% sure that the video problem is caused by the cables, as davedecay says. I've seen hundreds (and fixed hundreds) of PowerBook Titaniums. I'm more inclined to think that it's a video card (thus logic board) issue as your local shop says.

Now one thing about that local shop though... they seem to only be interested in lining their own pockets. Sure, the logic board repair would be about $600-700. But, you can send that right into Apple under the FLAT RATE REPAIR program for about $324. (out of warranty powerbooks that don't have any accidental damage qualify for that rate) But that way, the shop only makes about $25 from that and not the few hundred from labor and parts.

I just realized the screen wasn't up by 3 'clicks' or increments in the brightness level when I shot the video. It's too bad about the video card, that's nice information on the flat rate repair, chipchen, thanks. I hooked it up to a DVI monitor and it exhibits the same behavior on the external screen. I'm open to some advice if the best thing for me to do is part the Ti out on Ebay...but I think it could make a great internet station, server, or travel laptop just the way it is. It runs great and I think it's cooler (thinner, maybe?) than the 15" 1.25 G4 aluminum I used to have.

I might be willing to go 300 shipped

if you car asking 375 for your machine and it needs a new motherboard and that cost 600-800 to fix it then you are saying this powerbook that is broke is worth 975-1075. Just because it is working now it is going out and wont be worth 375 when its totally broken.

$340 is a ridiculously good deal even with the video issue in my opinion. It's a beautiful TiBook!

Can you tell me how much it would cost to get a DVD burner in that? Is it possible to put a DL burner in? Most importantly, I just would need the DVD/CD to be functional at least, so if I can do this for a reasonable price, I would purchase your laptop. Let me know, please email me directly at larryjklassen (at) hotmail (dot) com as I don't check for PM's or followups regularly. Thanks,

Larry
