I have a G3/400 upgraded DayStar Genesis in the closet gathering dust. It's a nice machine, but I have no use for it with my G4 desktop and iBook laptop. Here are the specs:

G3/400 processor, 1MB backside cache
Cool Daystar Genesis case (room for 3 internal full size drives plus 8 internal half-height drives, plus lots of fans to keep things cool)
ATI RAGE 128 video card
3dfx Voodoo3 video card
640 MB RAM (I think, I cant be sure without looking. It has 8 RAM slots)
total of about 8 GB of disk space over 3 disks.
8x internal CDROM
4x internal CDROM
built in video that supports video capture

If you were to add some cheap VRAM to the motherboard you could easily drive 3 monitors on this machine. It's got dual SCSI busses (internal and external). It's a nice machine, but I don't need it.

What would you guys say it's worth? Should I bother to sell it? Anyone want to buy it?

Wow, thats one beautiful peice of computer you got there. Wanna donate it to the charity of me Didn't think so.

Personally, I wouldn't sell it.... you have to pry it from my grasp first. If you didn't have a G4 I'd suggest you buy a better graphics card (Radeon or nViada) and use it for games. Another option is upgrading it to a G4, prefferably DP.

Otherwise, carefully screen aand select a new home for it... a dry cold climate like my area
New sig coming soon. Yes, it will violate the sig guidelines :p

Wow! That sounds like a sweet machine! I wish I had some spare $$ just burning a hole in my pocket...but alas

At any rate, I would expect that Daystar machines would still sell for a tidy sum considering their exclusivity and overall coolness factor. If you could find a Mach5 9600 with a comparable equipment list, add a couple hundred to the listed price and call it good. However, if a breakdown is what you really need, here's my estimation in rough figures:

G3 CPU - $150-200
ATI - $30-50
V3 - $30-50
640Mb - $200
HDDs - $60-100 (for all)
CDROMs - $30-50 (for all)
Daystar alone - $1000-1200
Total - $1500-1850 (median: $1675)

I don't think these numbers are unreasonable, but I'm not confident that you'd find many people who would buy it (besides myself, if I could) for that price considering the price point on the new machines.

Anyway, that's my guess...YMMV. Best of luck to you!

BTW if you decide to sell for an insanely low price, drop me a line...I'd give it a great home

Thanks for the replies.

I actually tried to sell it a while back. I was asking $800 for it and got an offer immediately, but the guy lost his job before the deal went through. Since then I got the G4/450/Radeon for very cheap, and bought a new iBook/600 retail, so I just don't have any need for it. I thought I might keep it until I can finish the basement and set it up as part of my "lab". I have a Sun SPARC1, a Mac Classic II, a Quadra 660av, an RAM-upgraded eMate 300, and an original Mac Portable in closets around the house waiting to be plugged back in. I figured I could put BeOS on it or something fun like that.

I actually have a second, less upgrade Genesis in the basement. It's got a dual-200 604e in it, and the 6-slot motherboard. I think it has 64 MB of RAM and a pair of 2GB SCSI hard drives. I was going to give that one to a friend.
