Have an old Scribe printer, and an imagewriter II printer. They were both working fine when they were packed in the box about a year ago. The scribe printer also includes a bunch of the printer cartridges. I believe this printer worked with the "imagewriter" printer driver.

Need to get rid of them, as we are moving soon, and don't want to take them with.

Who wants them? (would like you to pay for shipping).

The ImageWriter (and IW II and IW LQ) are all dot-matrix printers. The IW II is a 9-pin workhourse. I have had one for well over 8 years and it is still running (bought it along with my Apple IIc when it was new!). They are VERY rugged printers. As long as a little mechanical maintanance is thrown their way once in a while, they will keep running for a long time.

Also good to know in the new age of USB and FireWire...these are 8 pin miniDIN serial printers. They will work on any Mac (or Apple II for that matter) with a standard Mac-type serial port (printer/modem).

These are NOT Appletalk printers. They are also far from the quietest printers, but they are great for most text needs. In draft mode, they are very fast. They also print in color (with a color ribbon installed).

As far as the Scribe is concerned, I believe it is a thermal printer (don't quote me on that though). I have never seen one in person and I have not heard anything good or bad about them either. I don't think they were very popular printers at the time.

Hope this helps.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there a local talk card for IW II?

You may be correct tonymac...There was also a 32K buffer card option once upon a time.

*WOW!* - it is NOT safe to post your address to any public board...

to judge shipping you'd need to get the weight of package from the sender, trade addresses, then either of you could get an estimate from US Post Office, UPS or FedEx - all have websites. anyway, it's something to discuss in private with the "seller."

yeah, this is a Mac user forum, and 'everyone' knows that Mac users are all fantabulously kind, sweet and well adjusted, easy access interface types - but still...

Wow! I didn't know that there was so much interest in these printers!

Anyways, I just wanted to let everyone know that I contacted the seller immediately after he posted the message way back at the end of May and I already have the printers in my possession. So, there's not much of a point asking him how much shipping is going to cost.

Despite having the printer in my living room for almost two months now, I still haven't gotten around to actually plugging them into a Mac and testing them out. The scribe printer came with a zillion printer cartridges, the kind that has a ribbon in them. They appear to come in multiple colours. So, it's most likely some sort of a dot matrix printer, like the ImageWriter.

Hey there!

I will take the Imagewriter II off your hands, pay freight and still send you $20. Bill598279@aol.com

The Scribe printer was a very good printer. Thermal replacement heads were very expensive and the cartridges also. Scibe was not a very economical printer, because you can only use the thermal ink ribbons one time, and the printer wasted a space on the ribbon even if you printed a space. If you print 70 blank spaces(or tabbed) and 1 Letter, it would waste 71 spaces on the ribbon that could never be used.

It was almost as clean a copy as a LaserWriter, because the heated print head melted the wax together.

I had an ImageWriter dot matrix for 12 years before I gave it away, but it still worked perfectly.

One thing I have to disagree on, it was anything but quiet. Heh. =)
