Hello,

I'm thinking of selling and want to get a good idea of a fair asking price:

-PowerMac G4/400 AGP
-768 MB RAM
-20 GB HDD
-OS 9.1 and 10.1.2
-plus all of the standard specs that shipped with the G4/400 AGP (i.e., internal Zip, modem, etc.)

I also have an Apple 15" DVI flat panel LCD monitor and a Que!Fire 16x10x40x external CD-RW drive.

Thanks.

G4 400 for $800. That is amazing, what suckers. You can get a new 800mhz for $1500. It was actually my wifes system and she traded it in at a place called "The Mac guys" I think they used to be called "computer recycler" in Costa Mesa, Ca.

Do you really think the G4 800 is worth twice as much as the 400? I think its a reasonable price-no tax, fully upgradeable, DVD, ZIP.....................

Obviously we disagree. I agree with the pesron that replied last in this thread (see link below). $500 for a G4 400 is a realistic price for a person that knows what they are paying for, not that you couldn't get more.

I haven't seen a G4 400 mhz go for less than $800 on ebay. Ultimately the public determines the fair market value.

You are correct there. Most people you find selling computers, parts or systems on message boards are more imformed than the general public. At least this is the case on the boards I hang out on and figure that is the case here as well. After re-reading the above posts I might be completely mistaken. I do think $800 is good for a full system like the one of my wifes above or the pinkoos system (monitor, cdrw). I haven't done any eBay sales so I'll take your word on the going rate.

Powermax was selling G4 400's for over a grand with less RAM. Macs just hold their value extremely well. Of course thats helped by the fact that Apple overcharges for their towers. Theirs no reason for the PM G4 800 to cost any more than $999. And that would be about 100-200 more than a wintel....

Tell me about it! I want a G4 tower as much as anyone else, but I can build a PC with bigger & better parts and not crack $1k.

I actually just bought a G4/400 on ebay for $950. I made the mistake of not checking out which graphics card was in it and I needed the Rage 128 Pro which has the DVI connector for the digital LCD I am going to buy.

Instead of doing the simple thing and buy another graphics card I am going to resell the sucker on ebay to see what its like. I've never sold on ebay, only purchased. The computer is very stable and quiet, and it also accepted the firmware update that was disabling other people's RAM without any problems. Its probably a stupid idea to sell a computer I know is in great shape, but I find ebay fun!

If anyone is interested I will sell it for the same $950 with free UPS ground shipping. Its in its original box with all original CDs and everyhting, also a OSX 10.0 CD and box. Built in zip drive and DVD and modem. Original puck mouse and keyboard..........................................

Where is this place at in Costa Mesa, CA? I'm in Huntington Beach, and have a G4 400 that I would like to trade up.

If you can find a G4 for $500, buy two and I'll buy one from you for $550. Obviously, you haven't looked around. You can hardly find a blue and white G3 for that price.
