I posted this a couple weeks ago with no bites. I'm wondering if I set my price too high. What do you think it's worth?

I have a Blue & White G3 for sale in excellent condition. It was a rare "AV" version sold to the education market. The difference is a video card with RCA Video/S-Video inputs and outputs and the old style RGB monitor connector with 8MB VRAM. I have a VGA adapter included with it. There is no monitor, that's with my new computer. It will be shipped in the original packaging.

There can be a lot of software installed if you want it at OS 9 since my new machine is OS X and I'm upgrading to all of the newer versions (Office, Photoshop, Premiere, iMovie, Final Cut pro, etc.). I can include all or selected titles upon request.

G3 300MHz (Sonnet 500MHz G4 upgrade, original processor will be included)
8GB hard drive
832MB RAM (3-256MB, 1-64MB)
2 FireWire ports
2 USB Ports
10/100 Ethernet
24X CD-ROM
100MB Internal Zip Drive
Keyboard
Mouse

Well, true G4 400's are routinely selling on ebay with a buy it now price of under $800. There is currently a true G4 350 with a buy it now price of $649. I realize that you have upgraded your computer a lot, but the best way to get the money out of your upgrades is to part out your computer.

Here is a link for a B/W G3 400 selling on ebay with a buy it now price of $649.
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI...tem=2006968031

I realize that your computer has more add-ons, but unfortunately it is hard to get your money out of upgrades.

Another thing that is hurting the resell value of your computer, is that Sonnet recently lowered the cost of your G4 upgrade processor from $399 to $299. That's a hard price to beat.

Anyway, I'm guessing that if you asked around $450-$500 for your computer, and around $150-$200 for the upgrade you should have no problem selling it. But your best chance will be eBay. People on this forum, including myself, are always looking for a true bargain.

Good luck selling it.

How much are you asking? And do the upgrade cards actually provide an incredible leap over the G3 (would it preform like a real G4/500)?

At this point, I'd love $800 for it.

In terms of the upgrade performance, it depends. The original G4s, code named Yikes! used the same logic board from the B&W G3, so in that case, yes, it would perform the same. The later G4 500 had the newer "Sawtooth" logic board. The main difference was that the hard drive controller went from ATA33 to ATA66. Outside of that, still the same 100MHz system bus, same speed PCI cards, etc.

I do a lot of video work with my computers. When using Media Cleaner Pro on my G3, it would take days to compress a video a couple hours long. Upgrading to the G4, it became just a few hours. Cleaner is an alti-vec app, so it really sped up. Other, non-altivec enhanced apps did speed up as well, but not as much. This would also be the same on a regular G4.

Ya know, for about $100 you could get a Sonnet Tempo ATA100 or ATA133 card and have the same performance as a Sawtooth machine. The system bus stayed at 100 MHz until the G4 Digital Audio (466, 533, 667, 733 MHz processors) when it jumped to 133 MHz.

I had a Tempo ATA66 in this machine that I moved to my new G4 because I have 4 drives in it. Come to think of it, I have another one of those cards unopened. It's a long story, bought it with mine for a friend, he backed out... Anyway, I could include that with the machine, which would get true G4 500 performance. I wouldn't charge any extra for the card. It's sat in the closet for over a year.

Hmm...$800 seems kinda pricey is there any way you could bring t down, perhaps around $400?

Just want to bump this post back up to see if anyone else has any interest...

Go ahead and name a price. I don't really have anything set anymore. I just want to see what I can get for it.

Thanks.

You drive a hard bargain, but I'm doubling my bid to $2. Take it or leave it.

Some software would, but most doesn't. This was a demo unit from where I work and a lot of NFR copies of software were preinstalled that we used to demo with the machine.
