NO THIS BELOGS IN THE BUY & STEAL FORUM!

By their own words...... price will not be awarded until all 2500 tickets are sold at $15 each. That means you may wait 5 years until they raise $37,500 for a system that would be worth $800 by the time it was awarded. Gambling is gambling ...... this is giving your money away!

This doesn't belong in buy & sell!

I just wanted to follow up on that reply...2500 tickets is not that much at all. The site has been up for a week and I can barely keep up with all the orders and replies to positive feedback. The ad space that was bought on various Mac sites has resulted in a tremendous amount of sales and we anticipate a September Raffle for the G4. The site will be raffling 5 separate systems and giving away many cool accessories. This site wasn't made for someone who doesn't think different, I made this site so that everyone will have a decent shot at the most powerful Mac Computer available. Not only that, but we donate a portion of proceeds from each raffle to charity and the winner gets to choose what charity we donate to.

I know it sounds to good to be true, I know "they" say that
"anything that sounds to good to be true, probably is". Well it is websites
like MacRaffle.com that makes people have to add the phrase "probably is"
to the sentence. We deliver what we promise, even though it does
sound too good to be true. Well see how the winner feels about that soon
enough ;-)

A good piece of life advice, since MacNN cannot and will not be responsible for the thousands of external links posted in these fora, is this: let the buyer beware. I would say this if buying from MacRaffle, or Apple, or Sears, or [insert yours here].

Some interesting things people might want to read about before going to MacRaffle.com are at
www.bite.org/#raffle
and the 8/7 issue of appleturns.com

does not look like a good site

Legitimite Raffles set a drawing date!

They hold drawing, if and only if they sell all the tickets.

Sure and Clinton "did not have sex with that woman...."

I found out today that another website seems to be bothered by my
concept and is starting to stir up trouble. I didn't start MacRaffle.com to
cause problems in the Mac community, I really am trying to help it I can't
afford to give everyone a brand new Mac, but I can afford to put in some
extra time to try to help the person that used to be me. I always wanted the
Fastest most powerful system and I just didn't have the money to afford it,
but I always thought that since "Mac People" seemed to have a special bound
they would be willing to help each other out. I have made long lasting
friendships that were based on using a Mac. My idea is not to make myself a
ton of money as I am being accused of, but to help out the high school kid
that wants a Mac so bad he can taste it.

I think Bite.org went a little far with the personal type attacks and I
will not sink to their level for comment. I will defend my site though, I
am a simple person trying to make the Mac Community stronger. I thought I
had one heck of idea and didn't mean or it to get controversial. I am being
attacked because it appears that I am taking in a lot of money, but after
taxes, supplies, as well as the donations that will be made to charity
(Bite.org didn't mention that), the web design and hosting costs, office
costs, utilities, and all the miscellaneous costs that go along with running
a business. The huge numbers that I have been accused of being greedy about
really end up being fairly small after costs are taken into consideration.
I have tried to comply with laws applying to internet raffles and feel that
my site complies with what little laws there are. There is to my knowledge
no anywhere that states internet raffles are illegal. I cannot refute that
"traditional" raffles are illegal in some places, but internet raffles are
neither "traditional" nor covered by State law. When I am shown a law that
states that Internet Raffles are illegal I will adapt so that my site meets
whatever criteria is put forth to keep the site legal. I also would like to
comment on Bite.org's use of the term "smoke and mirrors", I am not a huge
corporation, I am the equivalent of a garage company, I work on this
MacRaffle.com and others as a hobby and for fun so I don't have the
extensive funds to put into a big company. I don't hide the fact I use a
answering service to handle calls or resell a larger corporation's retail
products. That is good business, low overhead and higher profits. Every
company has to start somewhere, and for mine it started with something I
know and love, The Mac.
You don't have to like the concept and you don't have to trust my
Company, but MacRaffle.com is not going to go away just cause one site
doesn't like it. We are selling many tickets everyday and aside from some
"sour apples" the past few das that forgot how to "think different", the
positive response we have received is tremendous.
If you aren't comfortable buying a ticket don't. If you are willing to
take a chance then feel free to buy a ticket. I hope that everyone buys a
ticket so MacRaffle.com can give away the "G4 dream machine" today and put
to rest all the negative accusations.

Warmest Regards,

What a Tool!

This may not be specifically mentioned by the law but that doesn't mean it's legal. It's definately in the grey area.

And who really does business with the someone who purposely operates in the grey areas of the law?

This whole thing is absurd and their attempts to explain and placate everyone are pathetic.

I think Bite.org's coverage is right on the money.

Who wants to guess that the winner of the auction will end up being a close friend of the operators? I'd say it's damn good odds!

If they want to make the Mac community feel more secure about what they are doing, then they need to hire an outsite law firm to handle the auction and money.

Of course there are people out there who will happily give their money to these under-educated freaks from Ohio. They will be screwed out of their money, and the tools running the place will laugh and giggle at their good fortune and all the money they just made.

I would expect no less from people trying to run a "business" on the internet.

Raffles are illegal in the US. I don't care if they are a "real company" or if the ticket sales are over the Internet. It's still a raffle and raffles are illegal.

This guy has terrible grammar in his posts. It makes him look very unprofessional. I also feel like he is more or less spamming the MacNN boards. I don't appreciate people using these boards as a way to advertise their site, especially when it is a shady one like this one.

I think bite.org had pretty good coverage of this. The most interesting part was that the site is being run out of a mobile home park.

I hope no one buys any tickets.

Despite what this hoser says, raffles are illegal and his site is nothing but a scam. He's obviously trying to take advantage of uninformed Mac users to make a hefty profit for himself. It's quite despicable. Despite bite.org's questionable methods of reporting the MacRaffle.com news, I have to applaud them for taking the initiative to point out this obvious scam.

And if Corey/MacRaffle were actually a Mac fan and purveyor of these boards, he'd know that advertising on these boards would be viewed as an affront.

I've submitted a complaint to the OH BBB, even though I live in NY. This guy needs to be shut down before he can scam more people out of their money. I hope the government spanks him silly.

Damien Barrett.
