I found out today that another website seems to be bothered by my
concept and is starting to stir up trouble. I didn't start MacRaffle.com to
cause problems in the Mac community, I really am trying to help it I can't
afford to give everyone a brand new Mac, but I can afford to put in some
extra time to try to help the person that used to be me. I always wanted the
Fastest most powerful system and I just didn't have the money to afford it,
but I always thought that since "Mac People" seemed to have a special bound
they would be willing to help each other out. I have made long lasting
friendships that were based on using a Mac. My idea is not to make myself a
ton of money as I am being accused of, but to help out the high school kid
that wants a Mac so bad he can taste it.
I think Bite.org went a little far with the personal type attacks and I
will not sink to their level for comment. I will defend my site though, I
am a simple person trying to make the Mac Community stronger. I thought I
had one heck of idea and didn't mean or it to get controversial. I am being
attacked because it appears that I am taking in a lot of money, but after
taxes, supplies, as well as the donations that will be made to charity
(Bite.org didn't mention that), the web design and hosting costs, office
costs, utilities, and all the miscellaneous costs that go along with running
a business. The huge numbers that I have been accused of being greedy about
really end up being fairly small after costs are taken into consideration.
I have tried to comply with laws applying to internet raffles and feel that
my site complies with what little laws there are. There is to my knowledge
no anywhere that states internet raffles are illegal. I cannot refute that
"traditional" raffles are illegal in some places, but internet raffles are
neither "traditional" nor covered by State law. When I am shown a law that
states that Internet Raffles are illegal I will adapt so that my site meets
whatever criteria is put forth to keep the site legal. I also would like to
comment on Bite.org's use of the term "smoke and mirrors", I am not a huge
corporation, I am the equivalent of a garage company, I work on this
MacRaffle.com and others as a hobby and for fun so I don't have the
extensive funds to put into a big company. I don't hide the fact I use a
answering service to handle calls or resell a larger corporation's retail
products. That is good business, low overhead and higher profits. Every
company has to start somewhere, and for mine it started with something I
know and love, The Mac.
You don't have to like the concept and you don't have to trust my
Company, but MacRaffle.com is not going to go away just cause one site
doesn't like it. We are selling many tickets everyday and aside from some
"sour apples" the past few das that forgot how to "think different", the
positive response we have received is tremendous.
If you aren't comfortable buying a ticket don't. If you are willing to
take a chance then feel free to buy a ticket. I hope that everyone buys a
ticket so MacRaffle.com can give away the "G4 dream machine" today and put
to rest all the negative accusations.
