The drive is a retail Sony 32x burner (10x RW/40x read) that is only 2 months old and is in a Sony iLink external case. I've burned 20 or so CDs at 24x and 32x with toast and have yet to burn a coaster (the drive has buffer under-run protection which is supported by toast). 74 minute CDs take a little over 2 minutes at 32x.
I'm buying a new laptop which has an internal burner so I no longer need this drive.
$179 or will trade (+/- some $ depending on the model) for a wireless base station (either the new airport with extra ethernet port or linksys wireless router).
