Not even close to a fair trade. The G4 will fetch about $600 the compaq about $200 then add the cost of shipping to the buyers cost. You'd be lucky to get a 366 iBook.

Cap'n, I don't know where you're getting your price guide from, but in my estimation,

The laptop is worth (not here in Mac-land, maybe, but in the real world) about $300-$350
The G4/400 gigabit on it's own is worth $1000 plus or minus.
(both checking at powermax.com and searching completed sales at ebay from last week)

The 21" monitor is worth $160 - $375. (a wide range, I know.)

So, you could reasonably auction them all separately on ebay and round up cash for a nice new iBook.

Let me say...I have to agree with vmarks. Captain Obvious...you really don't have an idea.

A copule of weeks ago, I offered my iMac DV (DVD,400MHz, 192, 10,), plus Photoshop 6, Flash 5, Illustrator 9, Office 2001, Quake III, Tomb Raider IV, Diablo II, brand new Apple Pro Mouse and Pro Keyboard, for an iBook 466 or CD 500MHz iceBook.

I think it was you who then came back and said that I would be lucky to get a Tangerine iBook.

Yeah right.

From my estimates - and I'm working in pounds ($1.48 to a £1), my iMac is worth at least £700. New Pro Mouse and Key Board, makes it another £80. Lets say all the software is another £200. I think thats £1000-ish...whcih makes it about $1200...more than enough for an old Key Lime iBook...or a DVD iceBook.

Plus...the 66MHz bus on the iBooks makes them technically about 400MHz for a 466, or 450MHz for a 500...so really...they're about as fast, if not slower, than my iMac.

Basically Mr. Obvious, please get your facts straight.

A brand new iBook? Becuase I'm worth it. Literally.

Play it cool

Hi Georgius,

I usually don't count installed software in the price of a used computer unless the original media is included in the sale- if I'm paying for licensed software, I like to have the license and media to prove it if audited.

Likewise, when someone says they're selling with the software installed for "evaluation," I immediately ignore that the software is installed, because I'll have to remove it unless I already own a license- in which case, it's still unimportant.

Remember that everything is more expensive in England than America-- to Americans it looks like you haven't depreciated the value of your iMac because it's used... when I know that you have from looking at what you paid for it new- a fellow Brit would have known that...

Thanks,

Victor...I do see where you're coming from, but firstly...I'll buy and sell in the UK, and secondly, over in the UK, my iMac is about £70 basic. I've seen an iBook 466 advertised for £850 here in the UK.
