I have a 5 month old Ti PowerBook that I'd like to sell.
It was the top of the line when I bought it, and now it's the bottom
of the line :-) Here are the specs:
- 500 MHz
- 512 MB memory
- 20 GB disk (1 HFS+ partition)
- AirPort card
- Mac OS X 10.1.1
It's in excellent condition, as I just toted it back and
forth from the office (3 miles from my house). I paid $3500 for
it new, and it now lists for $2400. I'm initially asking $2000 for
it and can part with it immediately.
If a buyer would be interested in an AppleCare policy for
it, it already has 3 years of coverage (4 months into the coverage)
that I could either cancel, which costs the buyer nothing, or sell
at a discount. The coverage cost $350 new and I'd be happy to sell
it for $250.
It'd certainly make someone a primo Christmas gift!

Nice powerbook. One question though, what kind of sense would it make to "cancel" the applecare policy? If you sell the Powerbook without it, you can't just get the cash value back from Apple. So, you might as well throw it in with the powerbook. Either way it goes, you're gonna lose some dough.
Note: Not arguing with your logic, just offering another point of view. If you are unhappy with this, send me an email or message and I'll delete my post.

Yeah, about those TPS reports, didn't you get the memo?

If I read it properly, paragraph 7 of http://a772.g.akamai.net/7/772/51/43a88292f8904e/www.apple.com/suppor t/products/pdf/AppleCare_PP_TC-c.pdf says that you get a pro-rated refund if the policy is canceled after 30 days. I just found this reference, so if you have more experience with it than me I'd certainly appreciative hearing about it.

That is interesting. I wasn't aware that apple had a refund policy on applecare. I wonder how much they pro-rate the refund though...Learn something new every day...

Yea, dude the new low end is selling for $2199 and its a 550 not a 500. Even tho you have more RAM, who would pass up a 'sealed in the box never been touched' computer over yours???
btw, Apple sold surplus of YOUR computer for $1999 - NEW!
Ya might want to come back to planet earth and start at a realistic price.
