I certainly wish the both of you the best of luck in selling your computers. I will be interested to see how much you can get for them.
You should note, however---
The new $1499 iBook comes with 128 Megs of Memory- installed.
It is 500 MHz coming out of the box.
It comes with DVD installed.
Its monitor has better resolution.
Its case is lighter, and I believe better looking than the old toilet seat.
It has more USB ports.
It has the VGA port.
It is BRAND NEW. (Comes with 1 year apple warranty)
It costs $1499.
Personally, I cannot see the previous iBooks, even the SE 466 iBooks, bringing more than $1200 now. I know thats the most I would pay- especially when you can buy a BETTER computer for only $300 more and it will be BRAND NEW.
But that's just me. I'll be interested to see how you guys do.

Hey you god damm idiot did you forget about apple charging Tax tha another $200 bucks easy with all the shipping and that sort of stuff.
So the DVD version goes from $1499 to 1699, yes my dear friend that makes it $1700, did you ever think of that , so I have a feeling they will get more than $1200 speacially of they have some decent software and more Ram, plus some people actually like the toilet seat more than the new iBook, I personally will have to see the new iBook to male up my mind, but it looks ok too.

I think this topic is relivent in the way that it sucks for us ibook buyers who just recently got an ibook SE. With the acception of the DVD the base model for 1299 could be considered better then my ibook. If I sell my computer I would probably do it for just $1000 even though I am no where near paying of the darn Apple Loan. Of course if I keep it and buy a new ibook that would be 3 ibooks I would have now... I already get ppl buggin me about how many Mac's I own.

I think the same way, Im defetbetly not buying this new iBook I think it looks horrible Ive seen it in person and I will rather wait for the new model to come out in maybe 8 months or so. Better yet I will love and see that apple bring's down the price on the Ti powerbook G4 a qould love to see that babe at $2299 when the new model come out.I have seen this iBook the new one and it really blows and the outside is just like the snow outerpart of the Firewire ones.

Well, ibr80, aren't you just a glowing ray of sunshine?! Good job spreading the word that the new iBook is a revolting hunk of junk, you're doing the world a great service...and to think, I almost bought one! Thanks!!

Congratulations ibr80, that's has to be the dumbest, most ridiculous post I've seen in days. DarkoJohn makes some very valid comments on the price of the older iBooks, lays it out concisely and in a friendly manner, and you insult him with juvenile profanity. If you are going to call someone a "god damm idiot", please learn to spell it correctly. I am always amused at misspelled profanity, especially graffiti. Oh well, your post gave me a little chuckle at the same time I guess.
And yes, there is a "b" in dumb (and an "n" in damn, as in "goddamned")
EDIT - Bloody dialup connection keeps buggering up...

Someone tell ibr80's mother that his computer time is up and its time for him to go to bed.
Good grief.
I am sorry for those people who have just recently purchased one of the 2nd edition iBooks- the machine still works, does it not? I am still using a Rev. B bondi blue iMac, and you don't see me bitching about the fact that it is only worth $300 now even though I paid much more for it at the time.
It is a fact of life that these products depreciate in value with time. The Quadra 610 I bought in 1990 is barely 10 years old, but it isn't worth $50 now- and I paid $2500+ for the computer, printer, and monitor at that time. This is the way it is with computers. I know it is a harsh reality, but it is the way it is.
Again, I wish the best of luck to those two people who are trying to sell their iBooks, and I would be interested in hearing just how much they are able to get for them.

Moving this to the Buy/Sell forum...
If you don't buy direct from Apple, you won't pay tax. So factor in $20 or so for shipping. ($1499 becomes $1519).
I agree with previous comments... I don't think used 466 MHz iBooks are worth anything more than $1200. I personally wouldn't buy one for more than $500, but that's just me (too big, too clunky, too small a screen...).
