Back around the end of February, there was a deal where you could get a "free" P-III (minus monitor and OS) when you signed up for a $299 online buying club "membership".

Has anyone here who signed up for this actually received their PIII box yet?

Jo Mama - I have personally known about this deal since December 1999 and wish every day I would have jumped on it sooner. People who joined Shopss.com for $299 before late January 2000 usually received their free Pentium III 500's within 2 weeks.

My order was fax'd February 18th, credit card charged $371 on March 1st and no computer has been received yet. Whenever I e-mail or call Shopss.com it's always the same excuse "we're experiencing a shortage of CPU's and are trying to work with our vendors but all the PC's are built and ready to go in the warehouse ... just two more weeks". Well as much as it broke my heart I called and cancelled my Shopss.com membership on Monday and should receive a full $371 refund to my credit card within 5 business day.

Your personal results may vary but before jumping to conclusions I would encourage you to contact Shopss.com toll free at 1-877-746-7880. There have been unsubstantiated rumors circulating around the Internet that Shopss.com may go out of business soon, unfortunately I didn't want to risk losing my hard earned $371.

AMD Athlon 700 here I come!

I signed up right before the deadline, in the last few days in February. We did call at that time to confirm everything and was told all was set. I asked about how long it would take, and was told it was usually about 4 weeks, but that they had "a big backlog" and that it would be longer than that. They wouldn't say exactly how much longer, so I figured 8 weeks, and the end of April will be 8 weeks. So I'll probably give it a few more days (I guess I'll wait until I finish my taxes next week and then contact them and let them know they can either give me a fairly firm delivery date, or a refund. If the delivery date passes with no PC, I'll get the refund.

In any case I'll post here with the results when I get 'em. Thanks to those that replied.
