Heyas, I have a single processor G4 533, 640mb, 40gb, CDRW, and GeForce 2 MX... I'm looking for a new model iBook with DVD/CDRW Combo. I think that this is a fair trade, as both machines are going for about 1200 on ebay (give or take) If you are interested, let me know, you can email me at anim8ing@mac.com. Thanks!
Also, i just noticed that the PB G4/400's are about the same price. If anyone seems interested, let me know. Thanks again!

Heyas, since you responded to my post i was wondering if I could ask you a few questions. Here is my situation, I just purchased this G4 about 2 months ago, it's fully loaded, and is a really sweet machine. I've got someone offering to swap me a iBook 500 with a combo drive. The main reason I want a laptop is for portability (obviously) I don't NEED a portable, just think it would be nice to have one. I know I'm going to see a drop in performance, but how significant is it going to be. I mainly use my G4 for Quake III and a few other games, as well as music, and such. I don't really use photoshop, or other graphic programs. Is it worth getting rid of this machine in order to have a portable ? Any feedback you could give me would be great. Thanks in advance.

OK, the bad part is that you bought the G4 right when the Quicksilver came out. You prob got a deal for it but it depreciated real fast. But the good news is that its a snap to upgrade. The Achilles' Heel to the iBook (and i have one too) is that you cant touch the thing to upgrade. With games you will see a drop in performance due to the ATI Rage in contrast to your GeForce. The bus speed will be a drop too. I like my iBook but i have a desktop too so I don't sweat the fact it can't be upgraded.
Today, right now, the iBook is worth more in resale in the long run the G4 will have a longer life. You'll have to decide which you care about more: all the good parts that come with a portable or the ability to upgrade your machine.

If you need portability, the decision is pretty obvious. If you want to keep playing games, use AltiVec, add hard drives with ease, stick with the G4.
If you can give those things up, iBook.
Good luck. You're lucky you found someone willing to trade- you're getting the better end of the trade, resale value-wise.
