I bought an LC on Craig's List for $10. It even came in the original box. The owner said it had a bad HDD because he couldn't get it to turn on. Turns out it was the motherboard. It'll chime but when it gets to the B&W screen and the mouse curser first appears, it freezes. When it doesn't freeze, the screen is completely garbled.
Other than the motherboard, the machine is in mint condition. Even came with a Sonnet Presto 040 card (not the Presto Plus, which would have been awesomer.)
The Presto card is not installed.

Ah, so it’ll need to be an original LC then. My parents used to have an LC II which had a dead floppy drive because my dad had the brilliant idea of cleaning dust out of it with a Shop-Vac, but which otherwise worked, and I was thinking of calling to see if they still had it, but they’ve probably thrown it out by now anyway.

Yeah, just looking for the old, regular LC.
By the way, Fry's has 1/2 AA 3.6v batteries for only $6 if you need to replace a PRAM battery. Radio Shack charges $23.

maybe try an old mom and pop apple authorized dealer/service center... they might have one lying around... you know how we old school Apple people are... can't stand to throw away old Macs...

Nah, looking for a plain old LC. It's pretty ironic, they used to be a dime a dozen. There are about 3 Goodwill stores near me, I'm going to check those out after work. I also posted a Wanted ad on Cragislist, but all I got was one SPAM and one guy wanting to sell me a G5.
