It'd be nice to be able to delete threads that we start, since sometimes either it stops being an issue, or the thread gets horribly derailed, or it gets mistakenly created (clicking New Topic instead of New Reply, for example).

Just my 2 cents.

It'd wreak havoc.

Havoc would be wrought.

Would it be possible to allow users to delete their own threads, given a time limit? Or maybe only up to a certain number of posts on it?

That way you couldn't delete long threads that others may enjoy, but you could delete a pointless or accidental thread.

Anyway, I probably obviously don't know the kind of havok that would be wrought.

I'd like that -- I've made a thread that, about 5 minutes later, wish I could delete because it ceased to be relevant and turned into a dumb +1 thread.

Besides, why would it be unworkable? That's how things are run at another forum that I frequent (3 guesses which one ) and the feature has come in handy there.

As long as it's just the person who started the thread who could delete it, I don't see what the problem would be (even if it was just within a certain timeframe from the thread's creation. Like a day or something).

I don't think it is a good idea to make it more easy to not use your brain before you post.

I don't understand why it would be unworkable? I use the forums at http://www.palmblvd.com and http://www.brighthand.com and they have this feature. If you'll look, there aren't any double posts there.

Every once in a while, people write things that they regret. The ability to erase a post would be good in my opinion.

someone posts something offensive. post gets reported. people are aghast in horror. original poster laughs, deletes thread. admin/mod checks for thread. thread is gone. bad man goes unpunished. little children cry.

the end.

When the Children Cry - White Lion

Little child dry your crying eyes
How can I explain the fear you feel inside
Cause you were born into this evil world
Where man is killing man and no one knows just why
What have we become just look what we have done
All that we destroyed you must build again

CHORUS
When the children cry let them know we tried
Cause when the children sing then the new world begins

Little child you must show the way
To a better day for all the young
Cause you were born for all the world to see
That we all can live with love and peace
No more presidents and all the wars will end
One united world under God

CHORUS

What have we become just look what we have done
All that we destroyed you must build again
No more presidents and all the wars will end
One united world under God

When the children cry let them know we tried
When the children fight let them know it ain't right
When the children pray let them know the way
Cause when the children sing then the new world begins

Well, as long as the thread is deleted, then the objective has been obtained, correct? Besides, if a thread is truly bad, then a lot of people will report it, so you'll know that they weren't lying, even if the offender denies ever having created that thread.

Oh well. I just think it'd be nice. But I can live without it.

I agree with the idea of having the ability to delete a thread you start... that is if no one has replied yet. Once a single person has replied, all deletability (is that a word? ) ability will be removed. At that point, only a mod or an admin (or some other type of MacNN god that we don't know about) would be able to delete or lock the thread.

My 1.99999 cents.

edit: stoopid smiley
