There are alot of Mac Users that have both PC's and Mac's like me. Im sure a PC section would work well so Mac users with both dont need to find other sites to get there PC help, spec with cross platform questions. I would be more then happy to help mod a PC forum as well since I know both classic Mac and most windows very well. I also have alot of time on my hands and im a forum freak

ya I could, people could but why send users away from here? And what about when its a cross platform problem, most PC users are total egg heads. Also what kind of support is a Mac user going to get on a PC forum, "I have macs and PCs, I know how to do this on my mac, how can i do this on a PC", responce MAcs suck get or your a loser....

Might as well have a Windows/PC section here , the only people using it after all would be mac users, I doubt any PC only person would even notice it.

Just a idea.

there are quite a few mac users here who also use PCs.

according to the poll i conducted on and around december 1st 2002, 51.19% of the users who responded to this poll in the lounge use both an apple and a windows machine.

i think that speaks for having a peecee section rather well. there are probably many questions regarding macs and how files will transfer over to pcs and whatnot. plus networking the 2 things together, etc.

ooh. statistics. hehehe

I like the idea to have a PC section too. People here are far more helpful and generally knowledgeable than many PC boards.

yup I agree, and like wise on IRC, I build and fix PCs for a living and some times I need to ask a question, I always go to #macintosh on undernet first before the PC channels why? Cuz most Mac ppl know what I need LOL and there happy to help.

Cross platform questions might work in other sections but what about the mac guy that just has a problem with his PC, that doesn’t fit anywhere in the forum. I say keep the traffic here, we dont want Mac users going to a PC forum to be barraged with PC's are better and they can do this and macs cant blah blah... Some might actually believe it and think twice. Well that’s my opinion on it. I rather get my PC help here where my friends are then going to dozens of different forums.

I don't want to steer you away from these boards, and I'll be talking with some people about this, but I would highly recommend Arstechnica if you have any PC related questions.

I really dont have many im usally helping other people I just think it would make MacNN Complete. I spend 5 hours a day trolling here ontop of 4 other forums I go to including 2 that I help run. I rather if need be post in the pc section continue to post in the mac sections and when I see a reply just go to it never leaving the site, never worring about a second login some where else. Im thinking more along the lines of users that do need help with both. And I would be the first to offer help in any PC section since thats my strong point nowadays.

If they post something slightly off-topic (not-specific-to-PCs) we can return the favor that PC sites do in their Mac sections. Lock it, or give them the bums rush into the Lounge.

Actually, it sounds like a good idea. We can refer people to Ars when Ars starts referring people to us.

Ars is a technical forum, they have a Mac section as well. They cover all computers.
MacNN is a mac forum.

I have seen plenty of cross platform questions. In ars networking, people ask about it quite often. I don't see disparaging remarks very often.

I don't see why macnn needs a pc section. MacNN's focus and purpose is macs.

To keep other useless topics out of the technical forums.

there are not that many. Besides the lounge is where people just go and do ... stuff, every board has a lounge/chit chat section

I agree with all the above, but there's one very important point being missed.

MacNN.
