I honestly feel that I3 L T don't deserve the title Junior Member as he have been a member since Nov 2001.
Check out this thread:
http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...hreadid=179456
Wouldn't it be nice if rare posters like this got their own title or something?
I don't mean like manually changing his title, but i.e. have a special title to folks that have posted less than for instance 6 posts in a year.
I just thought it could be a fun idea.
Thanks.

Yep I agree...

When put into context with people who have been here for only a few months, but flood the boards and end up 'Addicted' in no time but have said 'nothing', it seems even more inequitable...

ARS have recognised and dealt with the problem by having a 'secondary' title that is assigned automatically, purely based on the time elapsed since your registration...

This way rare posters get the respect they deserve...

Any chance the 'head sheds' could look into something similar here?

Peace,

Marc

I'm not too worried about it. the registration date lets people know your 'age'.

I don't really have anything to add, but I'm tired of being "junior" so this post puts me one step closer. Maybe I should consider the "flood of meaningless messages" idea....

If someone has been registered on this site for more than two years and only has a handful of posts, do you think they really care about any title?

Okay, I don't understand this comment, since this is the whole point of this thread. YES, after almost two years I am tired of the "junior" moniker. I *read* MacNN every day, several times a day. Unlike many in this forum I try to only add something when I think I have something of value to say. Apparently doing so only reaps you a title that makes it sound like you still have your training wheels on. If the number of posts a person makes to the forum doesn't matter, then why is it shown? The titles given to posters seems like a good idea on the surface, but the way it is implemented benefits the helpful people along with the overly verbose ones. Unfortunately I think most people give more credence to the opinions of those with "high ranks" even though the title may well be unwarranted.

With 0.04 posts a day, do you deserve a better title? I'm not talking about post-whoring either, but offering constructive comments. Two comments a week would make you green, if that's what is important to you.

It's hard to believe many people who have an average of 10 posts a day have that many thought provoking things to say.

Anyway, I retire from this thread. Reading other threads here does not persuade me that forum improvement is really desired.

when a dude hit 1000 it was pretty long. now it seems 1000 is a drop in the bucket

When Cipher13 was about to become the first to reach 10,000 we had this long thread debating what title he should have. Ah, the days.

How about "Posts as often as Windows is updated" for rare posters?

How about, instead of titles based on post count, we have titles based on MacNN milestones, such as:

- First +1 Post
- First IBGR/IBMoS Post
- First Post edited by mods for big images
- First Post While Drunk
- First Post of a picture of you with a bag over your head
- First Banination (hey, we do have a title for this one...)
- Each time you retire from MacNN

Back in the day it was between two people: Cipher, and myself. He was always a little ahead, but I was right up there. Then I got banned.

Tired of my old one. Stood for a web site I hadn't had in years and despite begging for the admins to change my name, they refused.

Do the admins have the ability to do this? Is it an easy thing for them to do?

They have the ability and its easy, its a matter of creating extra work. Change a nick for one, next you know you have a ton of ppl asking. When I used to run the ShadowGuild forums for Asherons Call, even though the user base was small only 500, I refused to changed nicks because I didnt want to bother with other asking me.

Jeff ******* says (9:19 AM): Eww, Ottawa is gross. It's infested with politicians, and presently, 1 Harper as well.
