since the minimum seach string is 4 characters. it gets pretty annoying and useless when i try to searh for say... " 15" powerbook vs 12" powerbook ". and i can't think of any other way to substitute the word 15" sicne nobody ever type 'fifteen'.

any suggestions?? thx.

I fail to see any really good reason to even have a minimum search string...
Do the MacNN forums really get THAT hammered with searches?
Be happy.

this has been brought up dozens of times. the search string is set at 3 characters because anything shorter and the search indexing would grab words like 'at' 'the' 'by' etc..
and that would take forever.
and searches would take longer.
and the search index would be huge.
and the server hit would be unacceptable.

sorry.

Could you implement such a system? I know I couldn't.

okay maybe i'm just a non-programmer who doesn't know what i'm talking about. but maybe...maybe i can create a filter to block common words from the search. it might take come time to perfect the filter, since new words may come up...but i 'think' it can be done. i dunno....any actual coder who can shed some light on this??

when you're dealing with computers and has lots of acronyms...it gets a bit annoying when you can't search.

i hope a solution can be found...but if not....fine...i'll browse it page by page....there's only like..what....few hundred to go through right...

Huh? I don't get it - the minimum search string is three characters which means that two characters won't work but three will.

Guess what? I can search for vpc and it works and I can search for vlc and it works too.
MI5 doesn't do evil. Just treachery, treason and armageddon.
