This is getting really boring:
I know I can delete the cookie - But that's not the point is it - the ImageServer and/or cookie is borked and has been for a long time.
please fix it!

Yes, Please fix it. It's about time. Long over due in fact..
So chop chop.. No use turning a blind eye to the problem, and will just go away by itself. Someones gotta get their hands dirty on this one, and dive in to sort it out..

This is a Safari bug, as I recently found out myself. Quit Safari, start it back up and log back into MacNN and all will be ok again...
Until the next time, a few days down the road when Safari starts sending strange requests to the server again. I have no idea hwy it only happens on MacNN, perhaps because the html is not 100% kosher/halal whatever, or perhaps because there's a memory leak in Safari that eventually just "loses it".

No, it happens with all browsers.
If none of the ADMINISTRATION team is willing to, or capable of doing it, perhaps you should not BE on the administration team, or at least FIND somebody who is both willing AND capable.
I realise MacNN isn't your life, but that's no excuse. You've taken a responsibility, so either deal with it, or drop it; short of that, you've had MORE than enough time to fix this.
It's beyond a joke.
Get your goddamn act together.

I didn't know it was a problem in other browsers, but I do know that quiting and restarting the browser (It's not as if this problem happens immediately) solves it, at least temporarily.

Yeah that's the only (temporary) fix I've found.
I sometimes get weird server errors when I've had a long MacNN session.

It's easier to just delete the bbthreadview macnn cookie.

Sorry for the delay.
I'm testing something out; let me know if you see this again.
Also, side point, you may need to delete MacNN cookies before this can really take effect (for various reasons, it may not wipe out the previous screwed up stuff properly, so the new settings may not take proper effect). If you don't want to bother looking too carefully, you can just delete ALL MacNN cookies and then login again. Otherwise, you could look for cookies set for the .macnn.com domain (not forums.macnn.com) and junk those. All relevant cookies should get reset as you log back into the forums, though, so hosing everything would probably not be such a bad idea.
We will try to figure out a cleaner way of doing this, but I'd like to make sure that this fix actually does the trick before spending time trying to make it seamless for people to "get", if you know what I mean.
And Cipher, take a little R&R...I realize it's an annoying issue to deal with, and the fix has been delayed, but really. And quit screwing with the censor filter.

F*** no.
You guys should ****ing get a clue. Is this place run by a couple of noobs or what?
This board is a disgrace. And I don't care how much time you guys have or how much you would need to fix it. Like Cipher said, you took the responsibility so deal with it. If you aren't capable of solving the problem maybe you should hand it over to others who are.
Cut the crap and get with it.

Well? Any improvement?
And Simon, this is dragging this thread farther off topic, so I've private messaged you a response.

Hmm - it was behaving quite well for a long time, but as Sod's law would have it - as soon as I got my hopes up the cookie began to crumble... (Yesterday, Tues.)

Diggory, just to make sure before I move to another test, did you log out of the forums, clear all the MacNN cookies, and log back in? (I know what I posted above didn't require that, but just try it to be safe.) If it still happens after doing that, let me know and I'll try something else. Just want to make sure vB is really using the new cookie on your thing.

I think whatever changes you just made caused a new problem. Now, if I click on a thread marked as "new", then reload the forum listing, the thread will still be marked "new". Before today, it would always be correctly updated to "old".
I did log out and delete all cookies.

I thought I had - but on re-reading your post I may have missed some of the .forum.macnn cookies (I wish Safari had OmniWeb's Cookie Finder)
I have now gone through my cookies with a fine tooth comb and removed all trace of macnn.
If It goes bad again I'll post here again.

The images seem to be correctly updating for me, now.

ok, great.
So if everyone could give me a status update sometime this weekend (Sunday or something) so you've tested it for a sufficient amount of time, that would be great.
thanks.

Images would stop being served to me if I had macnn loaded in a browser window/tab after 12 midnight after having it open for quite a while (I generally have it open from 9 in the morning until whenever I go to bed - not that I'm addicted....).
It's now 25 to 3 in the morning and I'm still seeing everything as it should be. So for now!

great. As I haven't heard any complaints, I'm going to assume this is now working well for everyone. Again, sorry it took so long to get to.
