I don't know what's the correct name for the feature, but the links to other pages shown towards the bottom of each MacNN forums page, like this:
Pages (6): [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] 6 »
Is it possible to change it such that it will also show towards the beginning of the page, so that I can go to page 3 without scrolling all the way to the bottom?

Not agreed.
Before I go to the next page I look if the thread I search for is on the actual page. And just wanting to go to page 3 sounds a bit like wanting to go to a random page to me given you don't know which threads there are.

True; however, once past that 1st page and you want to get back to a page before, why then scroll all the way to the bottom?

Going back?
Who doesn't look close the first time doesn't deserve better than to have to scroll down.

Huh? Just because I find a "good" thread on Page 1 doesn't mean I don't go looking for more threads on the other pages....

Just open them in the order you find them and not backwards.
But since you're looking for "good" threads, how about a thread ranking system and smart threadlists à la iTunes?

Hopefully every browser from here on out supports tabs then...

Yeap. This is one of the reason why I put this suggestion on.
Another reason is that often MacNN forums "lost" the login session, and I have to relogin again. If I was in view page 5 of a forum 5 minutes ago and I lost the session, it would be useful for me to go back to page 5 without scrolling at the way to the bottom of the page.
