I;ve been noticing my computer getting a bit slower here at work, and finally pinpointed it to Safari, specificially when I open up several tabs of MacNN. All the animated "shoot the iPod and win" ads seem to be responsible, and I can't imagine it being overly joyful for those with slower Macs browsing here.

I know the ad revenue is needed. But these annoyning animated ones may drive users from the boards, so please do what you can.

Yeah, the animated ones on the post screen throw Safari to 90% on my Powerbook.

One fourm that used the animated post threads on every thread is unbearable to browse. I wish Omniweb 5 would get a tad more stable so I could switch to it and set animated Gifs not to work on a per site basis.

I agree, the Flash ads are way too CPU intensive in Safari, and they're distracting. I have pushed for static ads only for some time now.

As for the grid of animated smilies in the message composition screens... there's an option in your User Center to remove the quick links thing, which doesn't work right in any Mac browser anyway.

Yeah, as I type, the iPods move 3 px every second. My computer is fine, but when I type in this little, box I type for 1 minute and wait for another for it to finish typing. IT leads to alot more errors. It pisses me off. Please ditch them, or at-least have them loop once or something. It's annoying as hell.

Also, instead of just removing the ads, drop the animated smiley picture.
All you have to do is have the beggining state of the gif, or the most defining point, then leave it still. The one, make the big eyes the picture. On the , the slamming head would do. On the , the tongue sticking out would be good. See what I'm saying? Just make it a gif, not an animated one.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Erm, now there's an animated ad "Hit and win an iPod" with Mario popping up out of pipes. I'm now taking bets as to whether or not that Mario's licensed from Nintendo of America.
We like the moooooon!

Of course not. I see nobody took my idea seriously.

Boy, these animated ads sure are carefully designed. Check out the exquisite grammatical structure in this one!
