I like the flash bee banner. It doesn't make any noise and less you shoot at it.

Try shooting it and see how long you can shoot all over the place and miss it.

The worst banner that comes to my mind was the one that started talking to you without you provoking it. I was at work one day reading macnn when all of a sudden that bitch started talking. Now everyone knew I was surfing the internet. Damn that was embarising (spelling?).

"Shoot the moron who came up with these ads and win a free iPod!"

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

I don't mind those ads as bad as the bee. It's on just about ALL the pages I go to.

And it's annoying as all get out yo!

I am seriously thinking about downloading PITH helmet.

What?

I use Firefox with AdBlock. Haven't seen a banner ad in weeks.

I could so without that damn ad too. It is, by far, the most obnoxious ad I've ever seen on MacNN. Shoot the moron, rah, rah, rah!

I don't like ad blocking, since ads are how sites like MacNN make their money. I have no objection to banner ads, as long as they're not freaking annoying like this particular one is.

Somewhat OT, but has anyone else noticed that the various ad servers are really slow today, impacting just about every page on MacNN?
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.

I hardly pay attention to the ads. Everyone once in a while I'll click on them to support 'NN, but other than that, I don't look up there.

That's the thing. If I see a banner ad that is as annoying as the ones here, my eye is drawn to it. Then instead of clicking on it, I block it. But if there is an ad that is not intrusive, one that I don't notice right off the bat, I don't block it.

I guess that defeats the purpose of traditional advertisements - that is, using ones that immediately jump out and grab your attention. But if they want me to look at their ads so bad, then they should make them like that so I don't block them.

If you do anything, please make them get rid of the cockroach banner. I hate cockroaches.

Exactly. I don't mind even clicking on the banners once in awhile. But annoying banners just end up ticking the "customers" off.

My cats loved the cockroaches.

I keep getting those audio ads. One that has this annoying sound of wind blowing and the other is some guy rambling about how he has never been overdrawn at some bank. I mean, wtf?!

Have the MacNN admins ever considered that ANNOYING ads are self-defeating: they drive us to install PithHelmet and ad-blocking CSS.

Might they not have some *courtesy* rules to apply to sponsors - - and explain why we think they're shooting selves in the foot with this !@#$%?

I've never seen any of these ads. Does firefox block ads? (that was sort of a serious question)
