Maybe it's simply because I have only been a member since August, but it seems there are quite a few PL posters whose interest in Religion and History and Religious History is so underserved by existing forums for the discussion of History , Religion, Ancient Languages and etc. that whenever a post mentions, even tangentially, any of the above mentioned topics, the thread is lost.

I'd like to make it clear...I DO NOT WANT THESE POSTERS TO HAVE TO LEAVE THE PL TO INDULGE THIS INTEREST.

I suggest ALLOWING these discussions to take place in the PL.

I'd guess the same people who are interested in these Historical and Religious topics are the same as those who are interested in Politics and War.

One thread was derailed this past Thursday or Friday, another I (hopefully) nipped in the bud a few minutes ago.

The mention of God or Europe/Africa in the Middle Ages and you'll see what I mean.

You'll note I never ask for anything here nor do I ever complain.
I hope the fact that I'm posting this will be taken as an indication of the frustration I feel about this matter.

Thank you.
Consider these posts as my way of introducing you to yourself.

Meh.

I agree. I'd like to see more thought provoking threads, more with religion, and alot more with historical nature. And I'd like to see the evolution threads gone forever. For-ev-er. They're annoying.

I'd also like to see MacNN require members to declare their nationality.

edit: Since when are religious/historical threads not allowed in the PL? Right on the description of the PL, it says "religious."

I would have to say because this site has absolutely nothing to do with religion, the history of religion, or politics for that matter. The political forum was created because the nastiness being spewed in the lounge was driving good, decent, contributing members away. So we tried to separate that away from the regular lounge. I still, for the life of me, can't understand why people think the best place to discuss (term used very loosely) politics and religion on a MACINTOSH WEBSITE. There are thousands of sites that encourage this kind of discourse. Go use them for what that which they are intended, and use MacNN for what that which it was intended. Or do we just not have enough flame wars in the political forum yet? Or maybe we have an excess of members, and need to drive some away?
