Over the past few years the iPod has grown to be one of Apple's major products, as important to the company if not moreso than any of their computers. Also, around the peripherals forum, it seems as if more then half of the topics are devoted to iPods. It would be nice to have one forum just for iPod questions/discussion and have the peripheals forum be used for what its supposed to be for.

i found only 14 of the 50 topics on the first page had anything to do with the ipod, hardly a reason for making a new forum.

I think we need an unmoderated flamefest forum. Eliminate the PL and just let people go nuts. Just prune the posts every 30 days.

Now 20 of the 50 topics have to do with the iPod. I think 40% is good enough to warrant it's own forum, but even if not the number of topics are just going to keep growing about the iPod.
I bet that sometime within 2005 the majority of threads in the peripherals forum are going to deal with the iPod forcing MacNN staff to make an iPod forum to actually have a peripherals forum.

With iPod Shuffle available now and iTMS expansion to more countries (I hope iTMS for Australia will come today...), I would suggest a seperate forum for iPod + iTMS.

Apple Australia can't even manage to have us included in so-called 'Worldwide" delivery of photo books in iPhoto 5 so what chance have we of an iTMS? Bitter, me? Don't get me started would like to be wrong though...

Lots of the iPod and iTMS stuff deals with iTunes. So where does that go? Not sure a dedicated forum wouldn't be even more confusing than it already is.

Which is why the new forum should be iPods and iTunes
iPodlounge is great and all but they do very little in the way of promoting Mac computers. If MacNN wants its community to grow or drag in any converts who have switched they would bode well to lure more people in by having a single comprehensive forum for the most popular crossover product and software. My bet is that most people who switch now (or in the future) will have some ties to a variation of an iPod and if they can come here to deal with support for that they may stay to participate or learn about other categories.
While iPod threads have littered the peripheral forum since the dawn of the release of the product the niche has now created enough of a demand to warrant a separate forum. It is not only practical but it will make getting support to the people who come looking for help with a printer or external drive easier because their threads aren't bumped to page two as quickly.
Now though I say this I seriously doubt it will happen. And I know two major reasons why.

That's a good point. People with iPods (but still with PCs) would be more apt to register for MacNN to begin posting in the iPod forum. After browsing, they might be more apt to switch.

I also agree. The time is nigh for an iPod/iTunes/iTunes Music Store forum.

It's going to happen in the future even though the mods don't want it to. They will be forced into doing it just by the fact that there will be to many threads about the iPod in the peripherals forum. Even though its a great idea and there is not ONE downside to having an "iPod/iTunes" forum, as Steve said in the other thread "It's never gonna happen."
Well, good luck with that.

This is the time for it.
How many freaking ipods do we need before it gets its own discussion space?
How many ibooks were sold last year?
How many ipods?

It is done. The iPod forum is for real.
Once upon a time, the iPod was a peripheral. It was just an accessory to the Mac platform. But it's become clear that the iPod is now its own platform, so to speak, and now the accessories are being made for it. So, over 10 million units later, it has its own forum now. Enjoy!

Cool!
For search purposes, will somebody be moving more of the older iPod threads from Peripherals into the new forum? Otherwise the "Search This Forum" function won't be much good for a while.

Good!
Now, should iTunes or iTMS questions stay in Applications forum?
What if something like "I have difficulties download my iTMS purchased songs into my iPod?" Should I post such question in iPod forum or Applications forum?

Only iPod-specific questions go in iPod. iTunes questions that do not specifically pertain to the iPod should go in Applications. In fact, if it were me, I'd probably just put all iTunes questions in Apps.
So, difficulties in downloading songs from iTMS is clearly an Apps question, since that doesn't involve an iPod at all. Difficulty in copying iTMS songs from iTunes to the iPod could go in either one, but I personally would put it in Apps.

The Mac OS X Forum description should also reference the "Applications" forum. It still mentions the old Software forum.

Yeah, I know how to browse the forums myself... thanks, but I'm cool. And I'm sorry my "tiring request" has exhausted your mind. Maybe you should start taking vitamins, or exercise. Increase that endurance, or just skip the topic in the future.
As for the "Final " answer, I think it's the lamest explanation I've ever heard. It's an explanation born out of laziness. I doubt even a shred of thought process was utilized on the way to that sham of an explanation.
Any logical thinking effort would undoubtedly result with the conclusion that setting up an iPod subsection of the Peripherals forums, or even its own main forum, would actually reduce clutter.
It's a concept known to most of us as ORGANIZATION.

The one in the forums updated automatically.
The one on the front page of MacNN.com is now updated.
The quick links at the bottom of the forum pages should be updated shortly.
