tooki,
I posted a thread on the Mac Mini forum titled "Mac Mini !".
You locked it with the following statement:
"Lesson: use descriptive thread titles."
We're all not dummies out here... even if it is our 1st. post.
FYI,
I made three (3) attempts to write < Mac Mini ! ... Shiping Issue Concerns >...
as the full title.
When trying to type the full title... it would only display < Mac Mini ! > in the title line. No more.
I just thought you'd like to know... I made three dedicated attempts to write a
fully descriptive thread title.... in case something else is amiss.
Respectfully,
Kayakk

I've also noticed that the Subject line can't be edited, and when you try to, the original line stays.
Also, tooki, why did this thread get locked? http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...readid=243906. It wasn't a serious peripherals thread, it was pointing out examples of the stupid 'me too' stuff that surrounds the launch of a new Apple. I pointed out that the design of the stuff wasn't using current Apple materials like white plasic and aluminium. And how pointless a plastic riser stand was when all it does is make the mini a bit higher and doesn't add any functionality like ports etc. Oh and I had a look over in the peripherals forum, and after a quick look there was no mini peripherals thread on the first page, so it would take a bit of searching to get it (if it exists), the least you could have done was move the thread to Peripherals or link to the other thread there. Locking the thread wasn't on, really, was it?

I've never heard of a problem like that. I have no clue what could cause it. If you run into it again, talk to one of us!
Indeed normal members cannot rename threads -- this is done deliberately to prevent abuse. When you edit your post, you are not renaming the thread. When you create a new thread, the title you type is actually sent to two places: the thread title, and the post title. We don't display post titles at all. When you edit the post, you are seeing the otherwise-invisible post title. (I know this is confusing, and I believe it will be fixed when we upgrade the forum software.)
If you need a thread renamed, ask the moderator of the forum, or an administrator.
The hardware forums are for discussing the hardware in question, and issues specific to that hardware. They are under only the rarest of circumstances for the discussion of application questions, since it's almost never the case that application questions are model-specific. (A good example of the latter is the G5's incompatibility with VPC6.) The hardware forums are not general forums for the owners of that hardware (that is, just because you own a PowerBook doesn't mean you do all your discussing in the PowerBook forum). Peripherals really belong in the Peripherals forum.
Besides, am I the only one that's noticed the HUGE glut of Mac mini threads, most of them with nothing substantial? They're drowning out the few threads that are actually of interest. We reserve the right to "prune" as necessary to try and maintain order and optimum forum flow (for lack of a better word).
In this case, the thread wasn't terribly far from the forum's intent (since those peripherals were specific to the one model of Mac), but since there already had been a thread discussing Mac mini peripherals, it was an opportunity to cut out redundancy and help clear up the clogged iMac forum.
