Okay... when I click the "Log Out" link at the top of the thread, it claims it cleared the cookies. But does it really? Apparently not, because although I'll be logged out for the rest of my Safari session, if I quit Safari and relaunch it, it'll auto-log me in again!

I was wondering why these machines in the uni's lab would have me logged in already when I used them... could I really have been that absent-minded to forget to log out all these times? No, this thing isn't logging me out properly. I need to Reset Safari to get the cookies to actually clear.

Um, please fix?

I haven't seen this (though I'll double-check when I get home and can hop on a Mac), but I'd check something with permissions, cuz it sounds as if it's not getting written. Does this happen with any other sites?

Can't be permissions, since the cookies are able to get written in the first place, and since Reset Safari works.

I can click "Log Out", then immediately go into Safari's preferences and look at the cookies, and MacNN's are still there.

Haven't tried it with other sites yet.

Huh, it is doing this with other sites as well, so apparently it's not MacNN after all. Also, it's working okay in Firefox; it's just Safari that's screwing up for whatever reason.

Weird. I guess I'll have to try this when I get home to see if it's a Safari issue or if something's wrong with the machines in this lab.

Weird, even at home it's doing the same thing in Safari. What the heck?

I guess this must be an issue in Safari. I'll have to get around to reporting it sometime.

Heh, interesting.
Not that I use Safari, but I did test it, and you are right, quit it and relaunch and you are logged back in.

This does not occur for me using Safari 1.2.4.
