There should be an age limit for anyone to post in the Lounge or Political Sub Lounge.

Too many I think are just too imature to discuss issues and it's a good guess to say they are under the drinking age.

Just a thought. Of course I expect them to flame this thread.
So lock it if you want...

Your guess would be wrong in very many cases.

Besides, since age here is self-reported, anyone can just claim they were born in 1914 and be done with it. We're not gonna have people start mailing in xeroxes of their IDs, nor using credit cards for verification (also easily forged).

:sigh:

Well I won't flame this thread. (...that would be immature, right?)

But you want to make the minimum age for the PL 21? Ouch. You guys won't see me around there for a while if that were the case. I dunno, I think I act decently mature in there (someone correct me if I'm wrong?).

I say make the minimum 16-17 if you must have a minimum. And then in about a year or so we can bring it up to 18... and so on. (for no particular reason )

I think a lot of our most immature members are over 21 (and many mature members are under), so this would be ineffective as well as potentially detrimental. I've found that on the internet, age and maturity often have low correlation.

Also, as tooki said, people can easily fake it.

in the old apartment buildings I grew up in, it was mostly 25 year olds pissing in the elevator and wreaking everything. Of course most of the adults thought it was kids. I find 20-27 is the most immature group. Shame on those who blame the young.

I think it is an interesting mix. Where in the world can you discuss things with 17 year old and 60 year old people simultaneously?

Sometimes the young bring new views into the game. Sometimes the old people bring experience. You need both. If you have only experienced posters you might end up with very retro results. Youngsters ideas sometimes tend to repeat old and known mistakes. But the mix is the most powerful thing you can get.

I think wlonh taught us five years ago that being older doesn't necessarily make you any more mature.

What has drinking age to do with a clear, inventive and experienced mind? I guess it would be the least significant indicator for good contributions here.

I like the idea but in the case of Americans I would like to limit it between 16 to 28, older Americans are to set in there ways

Nothing, as you can see with Americans. As soon as they reach drinking age, the dig horse piss like there was nothing else. Talk about retarded
