Hopefully this thread of mine doesn't get locked, as the last two..

I am proposing that there be either current or new moderators to check in on all the ridiculous bickering going on in the forums. That is, someone to step in and call people's attention, publicly, when they step out of line. These don't need to be personal warnings, merely something like "Hey guys, please stop the bickering." to calm people down, because it seems this board needs that. It sounds silly, when we are talking about mostly adults here, but I find it incredible and extremely childish how so many threads get derailed and degenerate into bickering and attacks.

I am not actually suggesting that people be banned for this, merely that they be called on it. I think that would be enough for all but the most shameless people here. I know my suggestion has very little possibility of becoming a reality, if but for the effort required, but I just felt like getting this out, because I just feel that so many people are acting so childishly here that it's shameful and obstructive to good discussions. If you like, hey make me a mod, and I will carry this function out as best I can.

I agree. There are certain posters who, if one sees one of the others in the thread, will instantly jump into some really stupid bickering. The others will then read it and join in, and the thread's derailed before the fifth reply.

never going to happen until Rob takes a hike. And there is not enough admins to keep him off for him to go away. Kevin and I where already talking about how we could help set a example of good posting, as both him and I have different veiws on pollitics and some social choices and religion yet we dont bicker either we get along. But in order for that to work, Rob has to go.

I can't accept that a minority of posters can ruin the board for most. Even if there were one or two "party crashing" posters, if the majority ignored them, they wouldn't be a problem, and I'd bet most would go away after a while.

A lot of the bickering isn't about politics or religion. It's just about people who just don't like each other. So many unrelated threads have been made to be about how Rolling Bones is a racist, or how Kevin thinks certain people are dishonest, or some other silly crap like that. This isn't all the bickering — I'm just saying, if you really want it to work, people will have to stop dragging their personal issues across threads. Otherwise you'll just be breeding an even less productive strain of bickering.

That was the point I was making when I said me and Kevin where talking about this today. Me and Kevin share totally different veiws on lots of things but we are civil about it with each other. Now we have a history to over come... and people like Rob just need to go period as he is the biggest caused of derailed threads. It would take at least 4 more mods to keep the lounge civil, that is deleting posts that derail right away, and ending the flame wars. And it would take at least 2 more Admins to keep people like Rob off the forums. Thats alot of new people. And for any new mods its gotta be long time members who know who are the trouble makers, who argues with who, basically the history. And I doubt any new Admins will ever happen because of how much control and power Admins have. One wrong Admin and poof real damage. Since none of this is going to happen users are going to have to make changes themselves

It wouldn't have to be new admins. It could just be moderators, who don't have quite as much power (at least as far as I'm aware).

But yeah, the original idea in this thread doesn't require any kind of special privileges. Anybody can pop into a thread and say, "Hey, quit bickering. If I wanted this, I'd go home to my wife."

Most of the general fights is a group of about 10 ppl in total

Me and Railroader use to go at it, we came to a agreement and been civil since
Kevin and I also had a small bout, but I knew he was new match

Im not sure the story of SWF and Kevin or Bones and Railroader

but in the end its about the same pairs of people.

Now in the case of Rob he picks fights with every one for no reason or stupid reasons.

Athens, I agree with most of what you've said, except this part. I think the mods do a good job by not deleting, but rather locking threads. Deletion is true censorship, and that I think is not a good thing.

its not that simple and its not that easy to be a moderator.

Yes, but I think such a comment would carry more weight from a moderator.

moderators carry no weight here.

The community as a whole needs to work together to bring the people that conflict into understanding with each other. What people do now is take sides, do nothing constructive and blow up at each other.

Over the next couple weeks things should change

some users are talking with other users to help calm things down, just be patient.

I have no problems with that. You might make a good mod. We definately need more mods in just about every forum here.

Thanks, Railroader and Kevin. I appreciate your confidence in me. I'd be even more happy if people were just more civil and mature to each other on these forums, though. I have no problem with the silly threads, as long as they're labeled so. It's the bickering that upsets me, because I see so many potentially good threads become garbage in the end.

If no administrative changes come to pass, I hope Athens is right, and posters settle personal arguments on their own and things get better on their own. That'd probably be the best change/upgrade to the forums ever.

We don't need more new mods, we need the mods from other forums with the powers to mod the lounge too. How often we see Steve, and Ghopher and other mods posting on the lounge but not really allowed to do anything. Lets get the mods we already have moding the lounge.

What amuses me most is that some of the people causing the problem are posting in this thread, complaining about the problem.

I've noticed that too. Either I pissed him off so bad he took a hike or I pissed of the Mods enough by making him a real big problem and they found a way to ban him... Which I apologize for those few days of hounding him I really do but the end results are worth it.

I think there should be if possible a timed locking of threads that go off track and get re-opened -if there is a chance that they will get back on track and they are useful for other people.

A warning button would also be useful, again if possible. E.g. A person gets an amount of warnings and is banned for an amount of time or indefinitely.

A few extra mods for forum clean ups would also be useful as some of the locked threads are clogging up the forums (hint - feedback forum).

I hereby put my name into the choose a new moderator hat and I also the vote Gabriel Morales to be one since it was his/her idea.
