Is a great example of why we simply don't need strict rules in the Lounge. The Lounge is for *wasting time*. It is a *lounge*. There is no way we can make everybody's recreation efficient, because recreation isn't meant to be efficient. It's like showing up at a party and complaining that everybody isn't partying the way you want them to, and thus wasting your time.

I did not register just to post that link, so please enlighten me as to why it was spam?

On second thought, I don't really care why you thought it was spam. I'd rather know why we need such strict rules in the lounge to govern our time wasting? Why have a lounge at all? Are people really that anal and have complained so much to warrant these rules?

Looking at the replies, Turtle apparently thought it was spam too. Personally, were I a mod, I probably wouldn't have bothered, but I guess it does fall on the spam side of the line.

Someone who did or didn't know better reported it as spam and the mod named "misc" closed it, probably not knowing better. He apparently thought it was spam.

Does this add anything to the discussion? Damned if I know. I just think it was a misunderstanding.

Well, the whole "Not MacNN" place has advocated sabotaging MacNN, and they created user accounts on their system, pretending to be mods from here. So we don't exactly want to encourage them, either.

I can assure you, there has been no attempt to sabotage MacNN. There is also no smearing of MacNN mods going on in there. There has been a little mod impersonation, but it was just ridiculous and playful like everything else on the board - nothing mean spirited.

I run the board, and I can assure you that I will not be sponsoring sabotage.

Please stop spreading FUD.

The Not MacNN members are, for the most part, reasonable and intelligent people who simply enjoy a little lighthearted banter every now and then.

If anything, the existence of Not MacNN has diverted some of the... less intellectual threads from MacNN, which is good for those who do not appreciate such conversation, and helps lighten the load on the MacNN moderators to some extent.

As far as I know, no Not MacNN member has advocated "sabotaging" MacNN by making inappropriate posts or the like. I'm a moderator at Not MacNN and, like besson3c, I will not tolerate a genuine "sabotage" attempt should such a thing arise.

Anything besson does is "ridiculous and playful" and "meant no harm" when he gets caught.

But we know better because we have seen such "banninatards" in practice in said threads he posted to "banninatard".

I also noticed they just deleted the "tooki" account that was once there.

I noticed the posts made by said person is also gone.

if you are confused, your a moron. Its spam, its nothing relating to any topics of discussion and its a competiting product. MacNN forums is a product that generates income from advertisment. Your forums besides being a terrible mockery is also compeition as it is designed to lure away users here, users which contribute to the reveniue of the forums by clicking ads or generating traffic allowing for higher paying ads.

It would be a competing product if it was linked to anywhere so that people knew it existed. Google does not index pages that are not linked to. Besides, the PageRank of MacNN far outranks NNN. Even if it were search engine friendly, it would be ranked quite poorly along with MacNN-related searches. Search engines also rank domain names higher than paths within domain names. There is no way to reach NNN without entering the long, complicated URL. It is this way by design.

Stop being overly dramatic, there are no devious plans here.

I got spammed 4 or 5 times to come join that site, I wonder how many others did too. BTW, ppl that spam me to join sites never get me to join. Anyways, its only a matter of time before it gets indexed by google. If I was macnn I would be sueing.

Spammed by whom? Cubeoid? If so, that was his decision alone. There were no official master plans to advertise our forum at all, other than word-of-mouth and inviting friends. I guess Cubeoid thought you were his friend.

Sueing? Why hasn't http://paypalsucks.com been sued? How about the Bill O'Reilly is a liar site? Because there is no confusion over brand. We are *Not* MacNN - could it be any more clear that we are not MacNN?

If the owners here are really bothered by the name, I will change the name. I really don't care either way. I'm not trying to advance the cause of NNN, it is what it is. Competition usually, by definition, occurs when one product is trying to outdo another. NNN just exists, that's about it.
