Simon, shut up or get out. You have no place attacking me, especially when I am TRYING TO HELP. That's two apologies you now owe me.

Dear MacNN owner(s),

You are slowing down my browser and forcing links into the posts I read. I'm not installing PithHelmet or any other kind of workaround for tripe like this. Either get it out of my face, or enjoy it without me.

I'm outta here for awhile, and will check back in now and then. If you decide to get your head on straight, and remove the ad links, then I'll be back on a regular basis.

Until then, no thanks.

Ciao.

You mean english I have a pretty good grasp of it, which means I don't need to use the f-word to describe things. You actually should try to expand your own vocabulary since you ignorance is pretty evident and that's probably why you don't understand. You seem pretty close minded in that you deride what you don't understand. This site has a profanity filter for a reason - I'll let you try to connect the dots and figure out why

tooki, I think for the moment you and I are finished. When this mess gets all sorted out, you can ask again for those apologies. Until then, why don't you just tend to what's really important.

You know, I didn't get a single one of these ads until your post.

I agree whole heartedly with you.

I am out of here. (hold your celebrations)

I'll check back every now and then until this ad crap is gone.

My browser speed has dropped to a crawl and affected my computer's usability.

MacNN has seriously dropped the ball big time on this one.

Maybe I'll see some of you guys on macrumors.com

Thanks tooki... many of us know that you ARE looking out for us... and that this wasn't your idea.

Please keep us informed as to what is going on... as this is the type of thing that would make me consider leaving the site permanently. I'm fine with banners, etc. but this is just in poor taste and offensive.

Just wanted to add my 2¢

I still haven't seen the ads at all. Not a single on, no ad-blocking business installed.

My guess is that Vibrant Media (the guys who own the intellitxt scumware) most likely target specific locations/countries by taking your IP address and matching it to a geographic region. If they don't have any scumvertising partners in that region, you won't see the ads.

Does Vibrant Media link to porn, naked people, or sites displaying nudity or even explicit sexual content? That'd be pretty funny. I'd like to see a link to a forum where furries exchange pictures.

I don't see the ads in Safari or Camino, but I do in Firefox. So it seems like it might be browser-based.

When looking at parts of their source code yesterday, I saw that they are using browser-/rendering-engine-specific scripts; so the JS rendering engine is likely to be a factor as well. On top of that, they seem to have some kind of "randomizer" built-in since loading the same page in the same browser doesn't (always) yield the same links. Obnoxious fsckers.

I always seem to get them with the words PowerBook and Personal Computer and Apple come up.

We keep our sigs in check, they should keep their advertising in check.

Adblock + Filterset.G = BAM!

The reason that the ads show up in sigs and PMs and everywhere in the fourms is that it's a client side script. After the page loads, the script has your browser ad the link/underline/color to the entire page; on a really slow machine and a complex page it's funny to watch. This also makes it very easy to block.

So since even the solution by mduell isn't working for me (I have the extensions, and Filterset.G updated properly), how else can these be blocked here?

Also, what is another good daily news site for Macs, along with a good discussion board? If these new ads were added to annoy users and drive traffic up at competiting sites, it seems to be working.
