Like say if someone reports a user, how often is such a thing checked?

For example, as soon as I and others see Rob is back, we report him.

Sometimes it takes up to two days or more for him to be banned, and by then the damage has already been done (Thread derails out the ass, personal attacks, etc)

It's getting rather annoying.

If it's that the mods and admins don't have time, why not bring MORE mods into the forum?

If it's another reason, I'd love to know why.

There have been a few requests for more help in here.

I know you admins and mods have a life too. And I am not poo pooing that.

But if you don't have time to properly moderate the forum, maybe it's time to get someone else that does?

Reports go to the designated moderators of that forum, delivered to their email (NOT PM). If that person wasn't around, for example, the other mods won't know about it.

I think it's fair to say that we usually catch Cash within hours of registering. Every once in a while, he'll play good long enough to go undetected for a while, but usually, it takes but mere hours.

The times I have reported him, it was a day or two.

For example he registered last night.

I reported him.

It's 2:00pm at he still isn't banned.

I say not only ban him. But delete all his posts he makes while here. It would be simple to do.

Maybe that will curb his desires to post.

Cause it's like he isn't banned now.

For example, a perfectly good thread ruined

http://forums.macnn.com/89/macnn-lounge/302529/permanent-ssri-antidepressant-induced-sexual-disfunction/

Maybe the Lounge needs more than two mods?

I don't see much of demon or thinkinsane lately.

Kevin, I hear praying will speed the process. After all, if your god is really real, and he actually cares for you, it should be no time before I'm banned!

PS: How often DO the mods check... now how often DOES the mods check. English like that makes baby Jesus cry.

As I said, Kevin: ONLY the moderator(s) of the forum you reported in get the report. If, for example, you report a post in the Lounge, I will not receive the report, because I am not a designated moderator of the Lounge.

How often email is checked depends a) on the person, and b) on the time. It's the weekend, and some of us actually have lives, unlike certain members of these forums.

They should really just stop banning him. Because their current strategy is just soggy and limp. And does nothing.

They either need to add more mods, or be more diligent with the banning.

Or when they do ban him, delete the posts he has made.

I know said mods don't really post or participate in the forum anymore so it probably doesn't bother them.

But it is freaking annoying to those of us that do.

There has been multiple threads about this in the forum, yet nothing has been discussed or no mods giving any ideas on how to clean this up.

And tooki you said

"As I said, Kevin: ONLY the moderator(s) of the forum you reported in get the report. If, for example, you report a post in the Lounge, I will not receive the report, because I am not a designated moderator of the Lounge."

True. But after you knew he was here, and was informed, you still didn't ban him.

And you have said ability. Why?

I've seen you lock threads and ban members it the lounge before.

What are you talking about?

If someone informs me of a banned member's return, I deal with it at my earliest convenience. By the time I determined what Cash's latest name was, it was already banned.

That's not too bad! If I didn't get a report -- and I didn't -- I'm not gonna go poring around for it.

I don't understand why you're upset. A few hours is a perfectly acceptable amount of time.

To hold a grudge, it must be something he did awhile ago that I am still upset about.

This is not so.

This is simply just being annoyed at his recent actions.

Though I even said if the mods couldn't be more diligent, they need to just unban him.

I guess this thread couldn't officially be called a report.

But you can't say you didn't know about it.

I mean I even gave you a link where he was being abusive. Was it so hard to follow said link and ban him?

I didn't know a "report" was officially needed.

BTW Rob is back again.

But that is ok. He is making a mockery of the mods more so than me.

Kevin: if you wish to file a report, do it properly. That is, include the poster's name and an example thread and specific post. I don't have the time or inclination to divine what it is you're complaining about. If you report by using the reporting mechanism, be aware of who it will go to: the designated moderators of the forum in which you file the report. If you do it via PM or AIM, there's more accountability, but you are limited by that specific person's availability, which cannot be guaranteed to meet your expectations of timeliness or results.

I am sorry, but I cannot accept responsibility for vague threads posted in the Feedback forum, which can hardly be considered to be directed at any specific person, nor can it be considered the correct place for anything you consider to be urgent.

Remember this, too: we are under NO obligation to deal with ANY problem or report within any specific amount of time. We are all volunteers, and unless we begin to be paid for our services here, forum moderation receives attention commensurate of volunteer work. In other words: I'll get to it when my time allows, and when I feel like it. Your "report" was on a weekend, when some of us HAVE LIVES to live.

I'm sure this has been asked and answered...

But why don't we have more mods? Are people just refusing the post? Too much training?

Hasn't the board grown a bunch since we got our last mod (and lost TI)?

I had asked to be a mod a few years ago, but due to my recent brain farts I don't think I'l ever be in the consideraiton for it.

However, that said, I really don't like when there are so many mods. For one it makes people feel left out when there is mass modding going on. Another, I don't want to feel like the Geshtapo is around every corner.

I can't work out why we don't appoint more mods either, I even started a thread on it and volunteered to be a mod... not much came of that

It would take the pressures off the main mods of which I count there being about 5 or 6.

5 or 6 mods is a small amount for such a big forum. Many other forums that are this size have at least 10 mods.

Harmony Central is tons bigger than macnn and the mods usually respond within a 1/2 hour to hour tops.

Tooki I know you have lives. I have NO PROBLEM with that.

But if you guys are so busy, why not add mods to fill in time you aren't on, or don't want to bother with MacNN?

No one is going to chastize you for having a life.

But one shouldn't treat NN as if it's the slums and you guys are the slum lords either.

Obviously more than just me have been requesting MORE admnis and mods. But nothing ever gets done about it.

And that request isn't something that will cut into your personal life.

I think you guys should strongly consider bumping up every moderator to Super Mod status, so that they all can receive reports. This is what a forum I moderate at does, and it usually leads to very quick turnaround times (under half an hour in most cases).

Actually, all our mods were silently upgraded to supermods a while back. That way, they can ban spammers on the spot rather than having to ask an admin to do it at some later date.

But that's irrelevant. ONLY the designated mods of a forum get reports. Being a supermod or admin does not change that fact. For example, vmarks, lateralus and I are the designated mods for the PowerBook forum. If someone reports something there, the three of us (and no one else) get the report. Conversely, despite being an admin (and thus having complete control over the front-end of the forums), I am the designated moderator only in the PowerBook and Networking forums. Despite being an admin, I do not receive reports from any of the forums other than those two. That's just how this software works.
