This is the third or fourth time this has happened in two days: I come to the MacNN forums, and I get this warning:

File name: http:// 209.190.31.34/jk/exp.wmf (I put a space in the address to keep it from becoming a URL)
Malware name: MS06-001 WMF Exploit

What does this mean? I've scanned my PC and I have no viruses, but apparently one keeps trying to download itself when I come to NN.

I'd guess one of the advertising banners that MacNN is being paid to put up is a specially crafted image to take advantage of an exploit in Windows that was discovered and patched earlier this year. Google for "Windows metafile exploit" and you can find more details.
MySpace was running the same or a similar ad for a while; I believe one article said it was served to over a million computers.
