What's The Point Of Buddies?

So, what is the point of having a buddy? I can understand the ignore function, but having a buddy does not make it any easier to, for example, find a post they are in. Maybe this is a function that can be added?

because how cool you are depends on how many friends/buddies you have. thats how the interweb works these days.

Well, if that's the case, they need to make it so that your profile shows how many buddies you have. It only makes you feel cool if you know it makes other people out there feel less cool than you.

I believe an upcoming feature of vB is that you can choose to only allow buddies the privilege of PMing you.

According to the vBB reference manual, adding a Buddy produces only one mentioned result:
Buddies will appear in the Users online list with a + sign following their username.
