It seems like anything goes in the lounge, but a discussion about the past year in Apple history is lock worthy?

I'm not the one that locked it but I'd be willing to bet that whoever did locked it without noticing that it said 2005. It was, after all, locked in the midst of our WWDC thread crackdown.

I'll reopen it.

Foul! You cannot reopen a 2005 WWDC thread and expect MODERN discussion on it! FOUL!

We have a rule: do NOT resurect threads more than six months old. 2005-all of it-is more than six months ago. Ergo, someone locked the thread because it's just so darn old.

You CAN start a new thread with a link to any old thread. But bringing old ones back to life is bad for the server and everyone seeing it.

Why would it be "bad" for the server? That does not make sense - either the server works properly or it does not.

I'm not sure I'd call creating a thread about a past event 'resurrecting'.

I agree. If you can't make a thread about last year, then you shouldn't be able to make a thread about a Power Mac G4.

I was wondering that myself. I have never seen somebody post like that before. Maybe a new forum rule should be don't post without a clear mind.
