It's strange. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. What's really strange is this thread:

The UK Pound symbol was working in another person's post. I replied and it was still working. I edited to add a line and it stopped working. The cent symbol often does work either IIRC, and the same goes to the "not equal to" symbol.

Testing...

UK Pound: £
Cent: ¢
Not equal: ≠

Well, whaddya know. It works here. So why didn't the � symbol work in the other post?

Yup. Unfortunately, the powers that be don't consider this to be a big problem, even though I find it devastating, since it prevents the use of many useful characters.
