Is it just me, or does the Marketplace seem like an incredibly violent place right now?
Exhibit A: http://forums.macnn.com/59/marketpla...gree-to-trade/
Exhibit B:http://forums.macnn.com/59/marketpla...ee-imac-parts/
Sure you could say I provoked the response of the seller for Exhibit B, but that doesn't explain such a violent reaction. Also I know you're not supposed to make posts about members, but I'm not just talking about B's OP. This kind of thing seems common around the Marketplace. I suggest 1) restrictions are set for those with low post counts ( this could also help with spam since you would have to have a certain amount of posts to reply or make a thread); 2) replies are limited to offers or constructive criticism only, or 3) Marketplace gets closed. Right now I don't feel comfortable buying or trading something in the Marketplace because of all of this junk. Sorry for the long post, but I just wonder if anyone feels the same.

From what I've been told, we can't set a minimum account age to post in the forum, which is what I would like to have.
Hit the nice 'report this post' link. 2) is already a rule on the forum.

With so many other places designed to sell/buy stuff is it a good idea that 'NN has a marketplace. I've not gone into that forum but I have seen a number of threads here in the feedback complaining all sorts of things.

Personally I typically buy/sell on craigslist or eBay. With eBay you have a feedback mechanism so you can choose only those that have all positives when buying. As for Craigslist its cash only and a face to face transaction.

Here (as with other forums that have a marketplace) its all blind and while some people use there ebay feedback as evidence its still fraught with danger of being taken.

As usual, your concept of this place is heavily flawed and your opinions are based on misconceptions. The marketplace is one of the things I really appreciate about MacNN. I didn't use it for most of my time registered here, but I've since made a few transactions with honest folk here on the 'NN and I am glad that the marketplace is there.

In the marketplace, you trade with members you build up an online realtionship with or have seen on the board for years, and yes, I think that adds a level of trust beyond the random guy on Craig's List or eBay. Also, there are no fees. It is completely free, and that's a nice benefit for members who have been here a while, freely contributing to the board.

You see, sure there are lots of sites to buy, sell and trade on, but one of the most important thing about any such site is the level of trust you have for its members, and that increases tremendously when you have a pre-established relationship with the buyer/seller, and a long history to refer to, which is why the marketplace is such a good asset to many users here and should stay.

The only reason I can see for the marketplace is to keep idiots from posting "FS:, WTT:, WTB:" posts in the other forums.

Keep that kind of thing in a certain place so I can avoid it.

Wow somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Why the attitude towards my post and its not a flawed opinion either. The marketplace has no buyer/seller feedback and no paid moderation. without them it people get taken, that's all I'm saying. If you think that's a flawed opinion fine, no skin off my nose.

If you want to debate the merits of the marketplace, I'll be happy to do so but lets not be rude and immature.

Fine Michael. I won't continue, but please keep this in mind next time we interact in a thread, as you've been rather unkind to me in other threads.

Anyway, I've given my reasons. I don't really have anything to add at this point.

I have used the marketplace since I first joined. I have never had a bad experience here, and I generally enjoy being able to buy things from people here.

Although the forum doesn't support a minimum post count or age of account to post in the marketplace that can be self enforced. Make up a number and don't buy/sell with people with fewer than that many posts.

While I realize that I can use logic and self-restraint, there seem to be a number of sellers who can't use logic or self-restraint. That is a problem.

If buyers don't give them business though they will move on and disappear eventually. Or not.

Either that is Rob pretending to be his wife, or she is just as big of a spaz as he is.

If true It's really quite sad.

Doesn't make sense. Why would he then register a new nick just to be himself again ?

Because he wanted to sell things and he has very little self control. Do you really think his wife would act just like him?

I don't know that.

But as you said, if he had very little self-control, it would make it rather unlikely that he pretended to be his wife for so long.

He actually stated that he just wanted to sell stuff on here. Well, his "wife" did.

That's the thing, he has actually posted from his "wife's" accounts. He even signed them "Rob".

So he wont have to. This gives him what he thinks is a legit complaint. Plus new accounts can't sell very well. People see them as being "shady"

I have actually talked to Rob's better half on IM. She doesn't act like that.

So, what did she say ? That she never posted from "her" account, that it was all Rob ?
Or that they shared "her" account ?

This was a good while back. When they first got married. We didn't talk about anything in general. Just normal chit chat.

I would never attempt to get personal info from her about Rob. Or attempt to discredit rob to her. That would be rude.

Even though he did attempt to do the same to my better half. Asking her if she knew I was a "christian" or that I had abused drugs in the past on IM.

A real upstanding young man he is.

She asked me later what his problem was.

So, as of right now, I still haven't seen any prove that it was Rob abusing "her" account or setting it up as a fake shell account. Waiting on the link from Railroader.

Exhibit B in the original post. The long reply a bit down towards the end of the page. Signed Rob. I’ll leave it up to you to decide whether he was ‘abusing’ his wife’s account, whether he set up the account to begin with, or whatever. It’s not like I really care.

[I haven’t bothered reading the rest of this thread—there’s most likely nothing out of the usual in it, anyway—just thought I’d set the turtle’s mind at ease]

Well, no. That was not posted from his wife's account.

Although, I have to agree, the other posts of "wifeofcash2" in that thread weren't very believable

Most of the wifeofcash posts seemed exactly like Rob to me. But the FS ones in the Marketplace, those ones seemed genuine.

I always liked the 'who is in charger here' thread title. It shows that somebody's fingers were used to typing the word 'charger.'
