Perhaps this is a quick question or perhaps it can be drawn out into 4 or 5 or more pages. In any case, I wonder:

What is the purpose of the lounge, what types of threads are allowed there and are tech threads allowed when there is a relevant tech thread elsewhere?

As an example. Some anonymous person has a desktop G4. One of their internal HDs is having trouble- possibly failing. Is the lounge a proper place for a thread asking for help or is taking advantage of the increased traffic in the lounge an improper thing to do?

And what, may I ask, is "moderator's discretion"? It almost looks, at first glance, to be a self-styled seal of approval for breaking a rule.

I usually do this after I've exhausted the proper option.

The way I understand it is anything that doesn't fall under one of the other sub-forums is fair game for the Lounge. In the case of the failed HD, you would post in the "Power Mac & Mac Pro" specific forum.

I think the 'NN has done a really good job of describing what goes under each section as shown below:

Discussion and support of all Power Mac and Mac Pro models. Includes Xserve discussion.

PowerBook & MacBook Pro (20 Viewing)

So the question is- say someone knows the proper option but chooses, willfully, to ignore it. Is that grounds for an infraction warning?

No, but you can feel free not to post in such threads which may or may not cause you hypertension.

Hmmm, I wonder who you are talking about. I think that a question such as that should go in a hardware forum, not the lounge. However, I think that the lounge is a better place for that then say the Mac OS X forum.

I explained my reasoning for posting my thread just a few replies into it. Anybody who had bothered to read it would have seen it.

You, however, wouldn't have cared regardless. Because you have an axe to grind against me. And that's fine too. But you just got yourself a month vacation for it.

Everything you post in the Feedback forum is derogatory toward me and it ends now. If you have something personal against me, take it to private message.

Have a nice break.

I think that, given that MacNN lacks a "general tech discussion" forum, it is probably acceptable to post that sort of thing in the lounge. Reviving a hard drive could be an issue that any computer could have, be it an iMac, a PowerBook, a PowerMac, or a PC. What if the hard drive happened to be inside a PC when it failed? Would it then be allowed to be posted in the lounge?

"That's Mama Luigi to you, Mario!" *wheeze*
