Once effgee gets back from Germany (where he is now, on another job, not vacation), he’ll start sifting through this thread, and the bugs noted here should then all be taken care of, one way or another.

Won’t be another two years, but he won’t be getting through the list over a weekend, either.

Maybe a summary of all major points could be made ( sorry if that's already been suggested, or even put together, I just popped into this thread to ask if there ever was a "reply" button in the "private messages" "inbox" section, could only find a "quote" button myself )

It's already been done in the secret lair.

Tone down the green slightly and maybe adjust the yellow to more of a mellow colour and i'd say I prefer no. 3.

Unfortunately, it turns out that Frank is stuck on dialup until next Wednesday, so that's when the serious bug fixing will begin. He should be able to get to some of the more urgent issues this weekend, but that will include things like the image verification bug in registering a new user and not stuff like icons. But yes, we are aware of all the proposed fixes and will be going through them.

That's because the "read PM" page uses the same template to display a post as this page here. Instead of showing a list of posts, it simply displays a single "post". And for this page here, effgee never liked the "reply" label on the button in the old design because it doesn't imply the quoting functionality – OTH, a button labeled "reply with quote" would be waaay too large and so he chose "quote" as the next best option.

Just one of those times where re-using the same template in various places isn't necessarily the best idea but that's how vB is written and there's nothing he can do about that.

Great Work on the redesign.

Any reason why the Multimedia/DV forum is closed?

My reaction is mixed. As a work of art, one of the best sites I've ever seen. The shadings, proportions, the way I keep getting drawn in and the site keeps coming out at me is masterful. In fact there is little I would change.

Functionally, I'd find it easier if there was not so much white space, the contrast created by the lines in the previous version made it easier to read and focus on. Also, I think there was more color previously, this design has a blue bias that is hard on my eyes, a very personal thing, of course. So a tad more contrast even in the buttons, to make the printed areas more clear. Also let us have our post numbers back.

In sum, visually this like going from OS 9 to Aqua.

Not having read beyond the first 10 posts, I have probably echoed others. If so, please take it as an endorsement.

Where is the UNIX forum?

I hate that the list of forums is not correct at the bottom of the pages. Also, I used to just scroll all the way to the bottom to see it, but now it is just above the bottom of the page meaning that I have to scroll up a bit.

The pretty factor is nice, but surely it should not come at the expense of usability.

How did it come to this? Goodbye PowerPC. | sensory output

Regarding re-organization.......

When we had the web developer subforum there were two sticky threads, you can get to them by going to the web developer forum via the footer links, but just in case they disappear at a later date................ ( couldn't find them in the developer forum with a search )

What the heck is it with all the "vacation" talk? Who's the specialist that started circulating this fairy tale (*)??

I am not on vacation. I had to travel abroad to kick off a new project I'll be working on for the next six months.

There. Better?

As gorg mentioned above, I'll also be stuck with dial-up access (= max. up-/download speed: 7kB/s) until the middle of the week, which is not only about as speedy and exciting as watching sap run down a tree but also expensive as hell.

What this means is that until I got somewhat decent internet access, I can only fix the most urgent of bugs (i.e., image verification for registration of new members, etc.).

(* – "fairy tale" because: "Damn do I wish that was true.")
