Any chance the ignore feature can be tweaked to simply not show threads started by ignored posters (unless, perhaps you've already got a post in it)?

No, I'm not thinking of anyone in particular.

Really.

No, really.

Life is like a clay pigeon -- sooner or later, someone is going to shoot you down and even if they miss you'll still wind up shattered and broken in the end.

Evidently so you started locking them which seems childish and an abuse of your mod powers.

Do what the rest do if you don't want to interact in a given thread, move on, just don't lock it because your angry/frustrated/tired of his threads.

Why can't he be banned from the regular lounge and be restricted to posting only in the political lounge? If you can ban people from the political lounge and not the regular lounge surely you can do it the other way?

Who keeps starting Political Lounge threads in the regular lounge? Hint: it's not anyone who uses a 68 in their username.

Because they are trying to silence him all together.

Expect this all to explode in a week or so. Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

He is responsible for about 50% of new threads in the lounge, many of which have a political or religious slant to them. Generally I ignore the double standards (hating sexual freedom, yet envying Hefner etc) and other nonsense, but it does get annoying.

Having the ignore feature set so it filters new threads by certain users altogether would be excellent.

There is this thing called restraint. Y'all should try it sometime.

Kevin, I just looked at the closed threads and it looks to me like the mods weren't trying to silence him so much as trying to silence all of the people he's been copying-and-pasting his posts from. Also, many were posted in the wrong forum. And, he continued to do it despite what appeared to be several warnings.

Personally, I don't want to see him banned; his political rantings are fun to watch, as are his attempts to use reverse psychology to get us to "see the light".

There are many forums out there that have an "Ignore List" feature. Put someone's name in it and when they post, all you see in the post is a message telling you that you have decided to ignore this person. You can then click to view the post if you so choose. It's a great feature and should be implemented here.

Did you actually, in any way whatsoever, read the thread? Or use these forums?

There is exactly such a feature in use here. What G Barnett is asking for is an addition feature/option within this one: that if a person who is on your Ignore List starts a thread, the entire thread never shows up for you.

Well, if this is feasible, I suppose the admin has a nice cushion of time to implement it now.

I've requested something similar before but to no avail. MacNN seems to forget that it's a Mac-centric board; once bonafide Mac users are made to feel like second-class guests to an entrenched clique of incessant posters, the majority of viewers will move on to other sites such as MacRumors.

Something for MacNN's owners to think about: banning 200 members may actually result in a gain of 10,000. At the very least, I hope the owners consider your suggestion or else exclude all Lounge posts from the New Posts function. It's not fair to force casual users to wade through dozens of non-Mac-related, non-work-safe posts just to be up on the latest Mac-talk.

I'm confused.

Mac talk in the Lounge ?

There are specific forums for that.
